Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, (NIV)

それゆえ、神は、キリストを高く上げて、すべての名にまさる名をお与えになりました。 (新改訳)

The “therefore” is there for the declaration of the results of Jesus humble obedience. Notice that as a result of Jesus’ humble obedience God has exalted Him. The devil tempted Him to shortcut God’s way in Matthew 4:1-11. But even in Jesus’ weakened physical state, tempted as he was to take the easy way, Jesus’ love for the Father and understanding of the value of the standards and principles of the Word, He was able to stand strong against the wiles of the devil. Peter reminds us in 1 Peter 5:5-7 that “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (NIV) Giving all our cares and anxiety to God is an act of humility. It says “I am not trying to control my life but am releasing it to you, Lord.” Humility depends on the Lord and His word. True humility is about the motivation you have, the choices you make, and the actions that you take.

「それゆえ」とは、イエス様が自分を低くされて従った結果が明らかにされたゆえのことです。イエス様がへりくだって従われた結果として、神がイエス様を高く上げられたことに注目してください。マタイ４：１－１１にあるように悪魔はイエス様を、神の御心につながる近道があると見せかけて誘惑しました。イエス様は肉体的には弱っていたにもかかわらず、楽な道を選ぶように誘惑されても、父なる神への愛と、御言葉の示す基準と原則の価値を理解されたことによって、悪魔のたくらみに堅く立ち向かうことができました。ペテロが１ペテロ５：５－７にて述べているとおりです。「神は高ぶる者に敵対し、へりくだる者に恵みを与えられるからです。ですから、神の力強い御手の下にへりくだりなさい。神が、ちょうど良い時に、あなたがたを高くしてくださるためです。あなたがたの思い煩いを、いっさい神にゆだねなさい。神があなたがたのことを心配してくださるからです。」自分の思い煩いと不安をすべて神にゆだねることは、へりくだる行為です。それは自分の人生を自分の手で支配せずに、主にすべて任せることを意味しています。へりくだるとは、主とその御言葉を信頼することです。真実の謙虚さは、あなたの持っている熱意、あなたが決める選択、あなたがとる行動に現れます。

Thank you, Jesus for showing me true humility! Help me to have a true heart-knowledge and wisdom on being humble before you.

主イエスよ、真の謙虚さを示してくださったことに感謝します！あなたの御前にへりくだるために、心の底から理解できるように導いてください、知恵を与えてください。

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, NIV

それは、イエスの御名によって、天にあるもの、地にあるもの、地の下にあるもののすべてが、ひざをかがめ、

Why do people bow their knees? In Japan bowing our heads is common. We bow to greet; we bow out of respect; often we bow just to say thank you. I love the way Japanese moms teach their little babies to bow by moving their little heads and having them greet people. Also among adults the lower the bow the more respect is shown. In America bowing is less common. So we need a very strong feeling that there is One so great and so magnificent that everyone will bow their knees to show their reverence. In Japan it is understood. We haven’t seen every knee bowed before Jesus, but there will come a time when He returns to earth and everyone everywhere will recognize Him as the Lord of lords and the King of kings. The question right here and now is, “do you recognize Jesus as your Lord and King?” Do you show him the honor, respect, and allegiance that He deserves? Isn’t it far better to choose to honor Him out of reverent fear now rather than wait until later? Fearing Jesus in a worshipful way is all about being in awe and having respect as you recognize His Lordship. When Jesus comes again, some will bow their knees out of terror that they had refused to believe and trust Him. I want to show Him the honor due Him now, don’t you?

どうしてひざをかがめるのでしょうか？日本ではお辞儀をするほうが一般的です。私達は挨拶、尊敬、あるいは単にお礼としてお辞儀をします。日本人の母親は子供がまだ小さい時から、頭を下げて挨拶することをしつけますが、私はその姿に好感を持っています。また大人の間では、頭を深く下げれば下げるほど、より敬意を表わすことになります。アメリカではお辞儀をすることは、それほど一般的ではありません。ですから誰もが敬意を表わしてひざまずくためには、その人物がずば抜けて優れて素晴らしいと強く感じることが必要です。日本人の方が理解しやすいことかも知れません。私達はまだイエス様の御前に、すべての人がひざまずく姿を見たことはありませんが、主がこの世に戻られたら、世界中の人々が主の主、王の王としてイエス様を認める時が来るでしょう。今ここでの質問は「あなたの主、王としてイエス様を受け入れますか？」ということです。あまたはイエス様にふさわしい栄誉、尊敬、忠誠を示していますか？その時まで待つよりむしろ、畏敬の念からイエス様を今すぐに選ぶほうが賢明ではありませんか？イエス様をあがめ畏れることは、主を我が主として受け入れ、畏敬の念を抱いて敬うことです。イエス様の再来の時、イエス様を信じ信頼することを拒んだ人々は、恐怖心からひざまずくことでしょう。私は今、主に当然与えられるべき栄誉を示したいと思います、そうは思いませんか？

Lord Jesus, you are due all honor, all worship, and all the glory. I thank you for being who you are and for your magnificent love and peace and the bountiful joy that you give. I worship you for who you are and I want to show that worship by honoring you daily. Teach me the things that honor you so my attitude and actions will reflect the decision to revere you.

主イエスよ、あなたはすべての尊敬、崇拝、栄光を受けるにふさわしい方です。あなたのご臨在を感じて、あなたが与えてくださるいつくしみ深い愛、平安、あふれる喜びに感謝します。あなたのご人格をあがめ、日々あなたをたたえることによってそれを示して行きます。あなたの栄光をたたえることを教えてください、私の態度と行いがあなたを敬う決意を表わすものでありますように。

Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis. 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged him to place his hand on the man. 33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man's ears. Then he spit and touched the man's tongue . 34 He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, "Ephphatha!" (which means, "Be opened!"). 35 At this, the man's ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly. NIV

This story of Jesus healing the deaf-mute is a vivid illustration of how the Lord can open ears and mouths. First, Jesus took the man away from the crowd. When we become believers we are no longer a part of the worldliness of those around us. Then He placed His finger into the man’s ears. Jesus is touching the very heart of the problem and practically demonstrating that being touched by the power of God will make the difference. It is hard to imagine Jesus spitting. But the image shows that all that is past needs to be gotten rid of. Jesus was giving this man the ability to speak. It is a wonderful picture of what coming to Jesus does for us. We are separated (holy means to be set apart) from the world’s ways and Jesus’ touch in our lives opens our understanding. He shows us through His word and by the Holy Spirit what profane things need to be spit out so we can speak words of encouragement and words that honor the Lord. Jesus always gives new beginnings to those who come to Him! We must then choose to come and to decide to let go of the things that have held us in bondage in the past.

耳が聞こえず口のきけない人を癒した話は、主がいかにして人の耳と目を開くことか、そのありさまを鮮明に描いています。まずイエス様は、その人だけを群集から連れ出しました。私達が信じる者となる時も、自分の周りの世俗的なものからへだてられます。次に主はその人の耳に指を差し入れました。イエス様は問題の核心に触れられ、物事を変える神の御力によって、実際に癒されることを実証されました。イエス様がつばきされたことは想像しにくいことです。けれどもその姿は、罪の過去を取り除くことを表わしています。イエス様はその人に話す能力を与えました。それはイエス様が、私達にもたらすものの素晴らしさを映し出しています。私達はこの世的なものから引き離されて（聖いものはこの世と区別されるから）、イエス様が私達の命に触れてくださることによって、理解の目が開かれます。私達が人を勇気づけ、主をたたえる言葉を話すために、主は御言葉と聖霊によって、世俗的な汚れを吐き出すように導いてくださいます。イエス様は常に主のもとに来る者を、新しい者にしてくださいます！私達は主のもとに行くことを選び、過去の束縛から自由になる決意が必要です。

Thank you, Lord, for new beginnings and for the power of your touch. I do want to have your ways become my ways. I want to have my words be pleasing to you. But also I want to learn what you have to teach me. Thank you for what you did for this man and how it demonstrates your power in each life that comes to you.

主よ、新しい始まりと、あなたの触れる力に感謝します。あなたの道が私の道となることが望みです。私の言葉があなたを喜ばすものでありますように。さらに学ぶべきものを教えてください。その男を癒されたこと、そしてあなたのもとに来る者ひとりひとり実証される御力に感謝します。

Philippians ピリピ 2:11

And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV

すべての口が、「イエス・キリストは主である。」と告白して、父なる神がほめたたえられるためです。

Just as the touch of Jesus brought understanding and words to the mouth of the man in the story in Mark, so will ALL people everywhere come to that point of recognizing that Jesus is the Anointed One sent by God the Father. In John 17:1-5 Jesus prayed, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” (NIV) The time was approaching when Jesus would sweat blood over the agony of the cross He was facing. He would be ridiculed, beaten, spit upon, stripped and humiliated before the victory of resurrection. The truest form of confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord is recognizing Him as the Lord who suffered on the cross. In that suffering we see perfect love. It would seem easier to wait and recognize Him as Lord when He comes again. But it is in appreciating the Jesus who died for each one of us that truly brings the deeper understanding of Jesus as Lord. Do you want to confess, not just to Jesus that He is Lord, but also by the words of your mouth as well as by your actions, acknowledge Jesus as your Lord? Confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord is profoundly personal and intimate. This is then followed by a public declaration in word as well as in deed.

マルコの福音書の癒された男は、イエス様に触れられただけで、理解を得て話すことができるようになりました。それは、イエス様こそ父なる神から遣わされた油を注がれた者、と認める人すべてにも起こりうることです。ヨハネ１７：１－５にてイエス様は祈りました。「父よ。時が来ました。あなたの子があなたの栄光を現すために、子の栄光を現してください。それは子が、あなたからいただいたすべての者に、永遠の命を与えるため、あなたは、すべての人を支配する権威を子にお与えになったからです。その永遠の命とは、彼らが唯一のまことの神であるあなたと、あなたに遣わされたイエスキリストとを知ることです。あなたがわたしに行わせるためにお与えになったわざを、わたしは成し遂げて、地上であなたの栄光を現しました。今は、父よ、みそばで、わたしを栄光で輝かせてください。世界が存在する前に、ごいっしょにいて持っていましたあの栄光で輝かせてください。」それはイエス様に差し迫った、十字架の血の苦悶が近づいた時でした。イエス様は復活の勝利の前に、あざけりを受け、むちで打たれ、つばを吐きかけられ、着衣を剥がされ、屈辱を受けられました。イエスキリストを信じると告白する本来の姿は、十字架の苦しみを受けたイエス様を主としてはっきりと受け止めることです。その苦しみの中に完全な愛が認められるからです。イエス様が再び来られる時まで待って、主と認めるほうが簡単に思えるでしょう。しかし私達ひとりひとりのために死なれたイエス様に感謝することが、主としてイエス様を理解することをより深めます。あなたはイエス様をただ主としてだけでなく、あなたの行い、知識、また口から出る言葉によっても、イエス様を主として信じて告白することを望みますか？イエスキリストを主であると告白することによって、主とより深く個人的で親密な間柄になります。その結果として、言葉と行動を伴って公に宣言することに至ります。

Jesus, you are Lord! You are the Lord of lords and the King of kings. Reign in me, Lord Jesus. Thank you for the love that you give and the friendship you desire. I want to draw closer to you each and every day.

主イエスよ、あなたこそ主です！あなたは主の主、王の王です。主イエスよ、私の中に君臨してください。あなたが与えてくださった愛と、あなたが望まれた親しい交わりに感謝します。日ごとにあなたにより近づくことができますように。

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed — not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence — continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling NIV

そういうわけですから、愛する人たち、いつも従順であったように、私がいるときだけでなく、私のいない今はなおさら、恐れおののいて自分の救いを達成してください。

Paul tenderly addressed the issue of godly responses to Jesus. So he put the “therefore” in to challenge all of us readers to carry out the goal of honoring Jesus. How do we do that? By acknowledging who Jesus is, what He has done for us and how He personally showed us the way to salvation. He expressed what kind of attitude we should have so that we can choose wise actions. The key to this are to keep our hearts and minds tender toward obeying the Lord. Remember that Jesus said the greatest commandment is that we should love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul and strength! This is the heart of obedience to God’s word! Just as love for us motivated Jesus’ coming to earth as a man, so we should love Him and give back to Him the allegiance due Him. By keeping God’s word in our hearts and minds we can learn to recognize the deceit of temptation and being watchful to shrink from it, choosing to honor the Lord in all we say and do. It sounds simple but it is not always easy to do. Our emotions and feelings make temptations appealing. So learning to deny those and make godly decisions takes a concerted effort. If temptation wasn’t appealing we wouldn’t have any desire to do it! But if your determination is to be sensitive to the Lord’s way, diligently following Him out of love, respect and appreciation then that will affect your attitude. That attitude determines the decisions that lead to action. Being a believer in Jesus doesn’t make you become robotic with no choices. But making wise decisions does open your understanding to how to live God-pleasing lives.

パウロはイエス様の御心にかなう心構えについて、優しく語りかけました。それではいったいどうしたら「それゆえ」イエス様をたたえる目的を達成できるのか、私達も含めた読み手にチャレンジすることを求めています。どうしたらいいのでしょうか？まずイエス様がどういう方なのか理解して、私達のために成し遂げられたこと、ひとりひとりに救いの御手を差し伸べてくださっていることを認識することです。賢い行いを選択できるように、イエス様は私達の取るべき態度を示してくださいました。大切なことは主に従う際に、自分の心と思いを柔らかく保つことです。イエス様が言われた最も重大な戒めは、心を尽くして、魂を尽くして、力を尽くして、神を主として愛することです！これが御言葉に従う核心です！私達を愛するあまりに、人間の姿となってこの世に来られたイエス様に対して、私達もまたイエス様に愛で答えて忠誠心を持って尽くすべきです。御言葉で自分の心と思いに満たすことによって、人を欺く誘惑を見破り、それを避けるように注意深くなり、すべての言動において神をたたえることができるようになります。単純なことに聞こえますが、実行することは決して簡単ではありません。私達の感情と気持ちは誘惑に乗りやすいものだからです。誘惑を負けない学びと、神の御心に添った決断は、一致協力して成果をあげます。もし誘惑に何も人の心に訴えるものがなければ、私達が欲望を抱くことはありません！けれどもあなたの判断が主の御心に敏感に反応するものなら、愛と尊敬と感謝の気持ちから主に熱心に従おうと勤め、それが態度に現れることでしょう。その態度が行動を起こす決断を促します。イエス様を信じることは、判断力を持たないロボットになることではありません。むしろ賢い決断をすることによって、神に喜ばれて生きることを理解する心の目が開かれます。

Lord I want your truth to govern my decision making. I want you to be honored above all else. That is what I desire. But I know that too often I fall short of that goal because I don’t recognize the temptations that lure me away by captivating my emotions. I really want to passionately follow you, using my emotions as a tool for obedience. Help me to understand how to do this better.

主よ、あなたの真実によって決断することを願います。あなたが誰よりもたたえられますように。それが私の望みです。それなのに目標を達成できないことがたびたびあります、なぜなら誘惑に感情を捕らわれて、おびき寄せられていることに気がつかないからです。自分の感情を従順の道具として用い、情熱を持ってあなたに従うことができますように。より良い働きができるように理解する力を与えてください。

Tuesday 火曜日—2月6日 February 6

Philippians ピリピ 2:13

for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. NIV

神は、みこころのままに、あなたがたのうちに働いて志を立てさせ、事を行なわせてくださるのです。

We choose to trust and obey. But the ability to do so is not limited to trying to do it by your own limited strength and ability. It is God’ grace that enables us! God energizes our ability, creating in us the power to walk in obedience. God’s way brings purity into our lives. Choosing to honor God and depend on Him brings purity into our motivation and attitude. We then discover true peace and contentment. The hardest thing is for us to let go of “control” and trust God. Intellectually, trust makes us feel out of control. Each one of us has a certain amount of desire to control our circumstances. It is a natural protective instinct. But letting of go “control” and letting God be in control is really the place of greatest security. In the Old Testament there is an expression of protection is often used, “under God’s wings.” This is security in God’s presence. By seeking to be in God’s presence we are choosing to honor Him by making Him our all in all. Psalm 36:7-9 says it this way, “How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. 8 They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. 9 For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.” (NKJV) It is up to each of us to seek to know the Lord by seeking His presence in our lives so that we can experientially know the deep satisfaction of being “under the shadow of His wings” gives.

神を信頼して従うことは、自分の選択です。しかしそれを実行するにあたっては、自分の限られた力と能力だけで頑張る必要はありません。神の恵みによってその能力が与えられます！神は従順に歩むために必要な力を、私達のうちに創り上げてエネルギーを与えてくださいます。また神は私達の命に純粋さをもたらします。神をたたえて信頼することを選択することによって、私達の気持ちと態度の汚れが清められます。その時に真の平安と充実感が得られたことに気がつくことでしょう。私達にとって最も難しいことは「コントロール」したい気持ちを捨てて、神にゆだねることです。私達の持つ知性の働きのせいで、ゆだねてしまうとコントロールできない不安を感じるものです。誰もが自分の周りの状況を、コントロールしたいというある程度の欲求を持っています。それは自分の身を守りたいという自然な本能です。しかしコントロールしたい気持ちを捨てて、神のコントロールに任せると、そこには現実に一番安心できる場所が用意されています。旧約聖書では守られた状態を「神の御翼の下」と頻繁に表現されています。これは神のご臨在の安心感です。神のご臨在を捜し求めることは、神をかけがえのない存在としてたたえることです。詩篇３６：７－９ではこのように語っています。「神よ、あなたの恵みは、なんと尊いことでしょう。人の子らは御翼の陰に身を避けます。彼らはあなたの家の豊かさを心ゆくまで飲むでしょう。あなたの楽しみの流れを、あなたは彼らに飲ませなさいます。いのちの泉はあなたにあり、私たちは、あなたの光のうちに光を見るからです。」自分の命の中に神のご臨在を求めて、主を知りたいと望むのはあなた次第です。そのことによって「御翼の陰」に身を避けて得る深い安心感を経験に基づいて知ることができるでしょう。

Lord, I seek to know you and to be in your presence. I want your perfect will in my life. It isn’t always easy to let go of my wants and wishes. But when I stop and think about it I know that in your will I discover perfect peace and fulfillment. I love you, Lord. You alone are worthy of all praise and honor. I commit my life to you to work in and through.

主よ、あなたを知り、あなたと共にいることを求めます。あなたの完全なる御心のままに、私のうちに働いてください。自分の必要と願いをあきらめることは、決して簡単なことではありません。それでも立ち止まって考えてみれば、あなたの御心のうちに完全な平安と充実感を見つけることができるとわかってきます。主よ、あなたを愛します。あなただけが賛美と栄誉にふさわしい方です。あなたが御心のままに働いてくださるために、私の人生をゆだねます。

Wednesday 水曜日—2月7日 February 7

Philippians ピリピ 2:14-15

Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe NIV

すべてのことを、つぶやかず、疑わずに行ないなさい。15 それは、あなたがたが、非難されるところのない純真な者となり、また、曲がった邪悪な世代の中にあって傷のない神の子どもとなり、

Here is where faith is put into action! Stop your complaining. Stop anything that would cause strife of a fault finder. It is so much easier said than done, right? We all rationalize that our circumstances are special. So we are “allowed” to complain or find fault or be argumentative and making sure that our way is THE way things are done. Our perspective becomes all about ourselves, our feelings and our desires. Somewhere in this mixed up way of thinking we start to think our way must be God’s will, when what we have done is switched from worship of God to worship of self. That pleases the devil and not God. The sad thing is that we don’t even realize it! As Christians we are to be known by our love, not by our strife! Love gives acceptance, respects our differences, and looks at others from God’s point of view. Loves gives a helping hand, not a condemning voice. Every one of us needs God’s help in overcoming wrong attitudes that lead to self worship. One good measure of this is found in considering how accepting you are of other’s differences. Do you love others unconditionally? Or do you think of yourself is better, wiser, more “spiritual” and therefore right?

信仰を実行に移す時です！不平を言うのを止めましょう。人のあら捜しを止めて、争いの原因をなくしましょう。実行せずに口で言うだけなら簡単ではありませんか？誰もが自分の置かれた状況は特別なものに違いないと、もっともらしく考えています。だから文句を言っても、人のあら捜しをしても、理屈っぽくなっても許され、自分のやり方は特別だと確信しています。私達の物の見方はすべて自分自身に限られ、自分の気分と欲求から生じるものです。そのためどこかで物の見方が混乱すると、自分のやり方が神の御心にかなっていると考え始めます。そしていつの間にか、神をあがめることから自分をあがめることに変わってしまいます。それは神ではなく悪魔を喜ばすことです。悲しいことに、私達はそのことに気がつくこともありません！クリスチャンとして私達は、争いを好まずいつくしみ深いと思われています！愛は人を受け入れ、お互いの違いを尊重し、神の視点から人を見ることです。愛は人に助けの手を差し伸べるものであって、人を非難する声をあげません。自己崇拝につながる間違った態度を克服するために、誰もが神の助けが必要です。このことを測定する良い方法は、あなたがどれほど他の人と自分の違いを受け入れられるか、考えて見ることです。あなたは他人を無条件で愛せますか？あるいは自分を人より賢く「霊的」だと思い込み、それゆえ正しいと思っていませんか？

Lord, forgive me for the times I have put myself before you and others. Open my eyes to see others as you do, full of love and unconditional acceptance. Lord, it is by your grace and mercy that I can see others as you do.

…in which you shine like stars in the universe (shine as lights- NKJV)16 as you hold out the word of life — in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. NIV

いのちのことばをしっかり握って、彼らの間で世の光として輝くためです。そうすれば、私は、自分の努力したことがむだではなく、苦労したこともむだでなかったことを、キリストの日に誇ることができます。17 たとい私が、あなたがたの信仰の供え物と礼拝とともに、注ぎの供え物となっても、私は喜びます。あなたがたすべてとともに喜びます。18 あなたがたも同じように喜んでください。私といっしょに喜んでください。

Paul’s imagery would have been commonly understood by the Philippians. The lights are like harbor lights that shine and guide sailors safely to port. Some translations use stars instead of lights. Stars were the navigation system ancient sailors used. Either way, the image is for our lives to be lights of faith in the living God to encourage and guide others to see the trustworthiness of God. Harbor lights aren’t needed if you can see clearly. The parallel for our lives is that although we don’t have problemless lives, we do have the Light of the world, Jesus, who leads us step by step. Paul also used the imagery of a drink offering. The drink offering was a worshipful expression of gratitude, devotion, and consecration. In other places Paul often used racing terms to express a life of faith. Any racer knows that it takes complete dedication and total all-out commitment to be competitive. Paul wanted his life to be a beacon of faith illustrating perseverance and total consecration. Through picturesque language he was challenging his readers to be committed to the same goals.

パウロの抱いていたイメージは、ピリピの人々に広く理解されたことでしょう。その光は船乗りが安全に入港するために、輝いて導く港の灯りのようなものです。光の代わりに星と訳されることもあります。大昔から船乗りは、位置や進路を確かめるために星を利用してきました。どちらにしても光の持つイメージは、信じる価値のある神の真実を知るために、他の人を励まし導くとともに、生ける神を信じる人生の信仰の光です。もしはっきりと辺りが見えるなら、港の灯りは必要ありません。同じように私達の人生も、問題のない人生などあり得ないことから、一歩一歩導いてくださるイエス様というこの世の光が必要です。パウロはまた注ぎの供え物という心のイメージを用いました。注ぎの供え物は、感謝、献身、神聖化を込めて神をあがめる表現です。また一方でパウロはたびたび、信仰の生涯をレースにたとえて表現しました。どんな競走者も完全に集中して、全力を挙げて競争に打ち込むことを心得ています。パウロは自分の人生を、忍耐と神聖化を明らかに示す信仰ののろしとすることを望みました。彼はイメージに富んだ言葉を通して、読み手が同じゴールに到達することに全力を尽くしました。

Lord, make me a light of your truth and faithfulness. I am wholly committed to serving you anywhere, anytime. You are my heart’s desire. I want to know and worship you from my heart and in my actions.

主よ、私をあなたの真実と誠の光としてください。私はいつでもどこでも、あなたに仕えることに完全に身を捧げます。あなたは私の心の希望です。あなたに心を尽くし行いを伴って、理解してあがめることができますように。

I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 20 I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. 21 For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. NIV

しかし、私もあなたがたのことを知って励ましを受けたいので、早くテモテをあなたがたのところに送りたいと、主イエスにあって望んでいます。20 テモテのように私と同じ心になって、真実にあなたがたのことを心配している者は、ほかにだれもいないからです。21 だれもみな自分自身のことを求めるだけで、キリスト・イエスのことを求めてはいません。22 しかし、テモテのりっぱな働きぶりは、あなたがたの知っているところです。子が父に仕えるようにして、彼は私といっしょに福音に奉仕して来ました。23 ですから、私のことがどうなるかがわかりしだい、彼を遣わしたいと望んでいます。

Timothy had a solid reputation as a tender, loyal, and caring young man. He was wholly devoted to God and to serving Him. When Paul needed to send someone to both minister to the church at Philippi and be faithful to give an honest and loving report back, he sent Timothy. By reputation, Timothy was trustworthy. What kind of reputation do you think you have? Each one of us needs to take time to examine ourselves in the Light of God’s perspective. We must ask the Lord about ourselves: Am I trustworthy? Loyal? Loving? Is what comes out of my mouth pleasing to you? Are my words encouraging or judgmental and harsh? Can I be counted on to represent you, Lord, as an ambassador of your goodness and grace?

Lord, examine my heart and show me areas that displease you. Teach me your ways that I might walk in your truth. May my words honor and please you. I need you to work in me, cleansing and purifying me to be the person you created me to be.

しかし私自身も近いうちに行けることと、主にあって確信しています。

Evidently Paul was in a place or circumstance which kept him from going to Philippi. Actually he was probably under house arrest in Rome. Was this a statement of faith or was it his own personal hope and desire? It is obvious that his desire was to be with this beloved fellowship of believers. I don’t know what Paul’s frame of mind was nor can I judge it. But I thought about how often we use the expression “I trust the Lord that (I)….” as an expression of personal desire rather than a statement of faith according to our understanding of God’s will? By expressing it as an act of trust, is it a subconscious way of trying to manipulate God to do our will? When you think of it in that light doesn’t it make you want to make sure that your statements of faith and trust line up with God’s will?

明らかにパウロは、ピリピへ行けない場所あるいは状況に置かれていました。実際に彼はローマで逮捕されていました。これは信仰の声明でしょうか、それとも個人的な望みと欲求でしょうか？明らかに彼が望んだことは、最愛の信者と共に親交を持つことでした。私にはパウロの心の構造がどうなっていたのかわかりません、また判断することもできません。ただ私達は、神の御心に添った信仰の声明よりも、個人的な欲求の表現として、たびたび「主を信頼します．．．」と言っていませんか？信頼している証拠を示そうとするあまりに、自分の思い通りに神をあやつろうとする考えが、潜在意識の中で働くのではありませんか？そのように考えているうちは、あなたの信仰が神の御心にかなうと確信できないのではありませんか？

Lord, I do want my words to be a statement of my absolute trust in You, Your way, and Your will. Lord show me clearly when I try to abuse my trust in you by using terms that come across as manipulative and demanding of my way instead of following your way.

主よ、私の言葉が完全にあなたを、あなたの道を、あなたの御心を信じると言い表すものでありますように。主よ、あなたの道に従う代わりに、自分の思い通りに巧みにあやつろうとして、あなたへの自分の信頼を悪用しようとした時には、はっきりと指摘してください。

Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need; 26 since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. 27 For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful. 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem; 30 because for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life, to supply what was lacking in your service toward me. NKJV

Epaphroditus was a man from Philippi sent with a gift from the church and to give service to Paul. Just as with Timothy, you can feel Paul’s esteem and affection for Epaphroditus. When Paul described Epaphroditus as his “brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier” it expressed what a heart companion Epaphroditus was to Paul. They shared a common esteem and commitment to the Lord and His work. This should be an example of the harmony of people working together in serving the Lord. Each person operates in the gifts God has given in harmony, unity and love. John writes of the Love that should bind us together in 1 John 4:7-11, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (NKJV) Some people are easy to love and work with. Others are more challenging. But the goal has to be to achieve a harmony and unity based on God’s love for each one of us. Remember that we are not enemies, but brothers and sisters in Christ!

Lord, make me an instrument of your love and peace. I want to relate to and work with other believers in love and harmony.

Philippians ピリピ 3:1

Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. NIV

最後に、私の兄弟たち。主にあって喜びなさい。前と同じことを書きますが、これは、私には煩わしいことではなく、あなたがたの安全のためにもなることです。

Many circumstances are so challenging and uncomfortable that rejoicing in them seems impossible! Paul understood difficulties and struggles. But he had learned the secret of the power of rejoicing. So he did not tire of encouraging his readers to rejoice. The key is that we are to rejoice in the Lord! Rejoice in the Lord who is sovereign. Rejoice in the Lord who loves you. Rejoicing in the Lord is a very real expression of faith and trust. Rejoicing in the Lord isn’t a way to manipulate God to get us out of our struggles or make things the way we want them. He may not change the situation. But He will change you! A changed, more Christ-like you is the most goal. Ephesians 2:14 reminds us, “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.” NIV Jesus has done the work to destroy any walls that would separate us. He is our source of peace. He is the reason we can rejoice. Our faith is not based on circumstances, but on Jesus, our Savior and our Lord.

多くの状況は困難で苦しく、その中に喜びを見つけることは不可能に思えます！パウロは困難と苦闘を理解していました。だからこそ喜ぶことに秘められた力を学びました。ですから読み手が喜びを知るためなら、励ますことに疲れを知りませんでした。大切なことは主にあって喜ぶことです！君臨する主にあって喜んでください。あなたを愛してくださる主にあって喜んでください。主にあって喜ぶことは、信仰と信頼を現実に表すことです。主にあって喜ぶことは、苦闘から抜け出すためや、自分の思い通りに事を運ぶために主をあやつることではありません。主は状況を変えてはくれないかも知れません。しかし主はあなたを変えてくれるでしょう！あなたがキリストのように変わることが、最終目標です。エペソ２：１４は告げています。「キリストこそ私たちの平和であり、二つのものを一つにし、隔ての壁を打ちこわし。」私達を隔てるどんな壁も、打ちこわし成し遂げてくださいました。主こそ私達の平和の源です。私達が喜ぶことができるのは、主のおかげです。私達の信仰は状況に左右されるのではなく、救い主、我が主であるイエス様のもとにあります。

Thank you, Jesus, for all that you did for me on the cross, and for the victory you achieved through resurrection. You are the reason I can rejoice. You have given me hope. I rejoice in you for you are the King of kings and Lord of Lords!

Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh. NIV

どうか犬に気をつけてください。悪い働き人に気をつけてください。肉体だけの割礼の者に気をつけてください。

Rejoicing in the Lord should not make us blind to dangerous areas. We all need to beware of spiritual pitfalls. Paul gives three areas that we are to especially to be aware. 1—Be aware of “those dogs.” The word dog referred to a shameless, snarling, dissatisfied, contentious, and vile person. Interestingly, Jewish people called non-Jews “dogs” and the Muslims called Jews and Christians “dogs” Being called a dog was not good! Most dogs at that time were not pets but roamed freely eating disgusting things and causing havoc. 2—Watch out for evil doers. Evil doers are those people who pose as spiritual but try to get you to conform to laws and ideas apart from God’s way. At that time many Jewish people felt a person couldn’t be a believer in God unless they were circumcised. They also urged following the law to make them holy instead of accepting what Jesus had done to pay for our sins on the cross. 3--Beware of mutilators of the flesh. Undoubtedly this was referring to being circumcised. Being circumcised is not evil. But it isn’t the road to salvation. Nor it is a sign of spiritual depth. And it should not be done to appease others. No matter what era we live in, there will be teachers and others who try to take our focus off the Lord and put it on to things you do to earn the Lord’s favor. Beware of anything and anyone that turns your focus from the Lord and what He has done for you to thinking about your works as the source of spiritual accomplishment!

主にあって喜ぶことは、危険なものが見えなくなることではありません。特に霊的な落とし穴には用心することです。パウロは、私達が特に気を付けなくてはいけないことを、３点あげています。１．「犬」に気を付けること。ここでの犬は、恥知らずで、がみがみどなる、不満を抱いた、争いを好む、堕落した人物のことです。興味深いことに、ユダヤ人はユダヤ人以外の人を「犬」と呼び、イスラム教徒はユダヤ人とクリスチャンのことを「犬」と呼びます。犬と呼ばれることは好ましいことではありません！当時はほとんどの犬が飼い犬ではなく、自由にうろついては腐ったものを食いあさり、暴れては混乱を引き起こすものでした。２、悪事を行う者に警戒すること。悪事を行う者は崇高に見せかけて、神の道から外れた掟と思想にあなたを従わせようと試みます。当時ユダヤ人の多くは、割礼を受けなければ神を信じる資格がないと思っていました。彼らはまた、十字架の上で人間の罪をあがなうために、イエス様が成し遂げられたことを受け入れる代わりに、聖なる者になるためには掟に従うべきだと主張していました。３、肉体に傷を加えた人に気を付けること。これは疑いもなく割礼している人のことです。割礼は悪ではありません。しかし救われる方法ではありません。霊的な深さを示すものでもありません。また人をなだめるためにするものでもありません。たとえどんな時代に生きるにしても、主から私達の目を反らせて、主の愛顧を得るために努力することに、私達の目を向けようとする教師あるいは誰かがいるものです。私達の焦点を主が成し遂げられたことから遠ざけ、自分の働きが霊的な達成の源になるという考え方に向けようとする物や人に注意してください。

Lord, please give me your discernment for those areas where I could be tempted away from your truth. I desire for your truth to my truth. I want to learn of you and your ways, honoring you in all that I say and do. Thank you for being a faithful teacher, sharing your truth for those who seek you.

主よ、あなたの真実から遠ざけようとする誘惑に負けないために、あなたの洞察力を与えてください。あなたの真実が私の真実となることが願いです。私の言葉と行いがあなたをたたえながら、あなたの道を学んで行けますように。あなたを求める者にとって、誠実な教師となって真実を教えてくださり感謝します。

Philippians ピリピ 3:3

For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh NIV

神の御霊によって礼拝をし、キリスト・イエスを誇り、人間的なものを頼みにしない私たちのほうこそ、割礼の者なのです。

Deuteronomy 30:6 says, “The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.” (NIV) Jesus said in John 4:23-24, “…true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (NIV) True worship comes from the heart. It isn’t based on what we do. It is not about circumstances, but about a heart that truly seeks God above all else. We can rejoice in all Jesus is and has done for us. Others can encourage us. Their lives can be a light that inspires us to wholeheartedly seek the Lord. But we must always have a passion to know the Lord, serving Him only. God searches our hearts. He knows the secrets of our hearts, including things we might not even be aware that we are harboring! Let him search your heart. He is merciful and gracious. His desire is to get rid of all that is rotten in us that would destroy us so we can have pure hearts and clean hands!

Lord my prayer is “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (Psalms 139:23-24 NLT)

Though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless. 7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ NIV

ただし、私は、人間的なものにおいても頼むところがあります。もし、ほかの人が人間的なものに頼むところがあると思うなら、私は、それ以上です。5 私は八日目の割礼を受け、イスラエル民族に属し、ベニヤミンの分かれの者です。きっすいのヘブル人で、律法についてはパリサイ人、6 その熱心は教会を迫害したほどで、律法による義についてならば非難されるところのない者です。7 しかし、私にとって得であったこのようなものをみな、私はキリストのゆえに、損と思うようになりました。

Paul had all the “credentials” and everything that could give him status with the Jews of that day. He even had more credentials than many who were trying to bring their personal agenda into the lives of believers. But look at verse 7. Human accomplishments and credentials meant nothing when compared to knowing Jesus! When we look back to Genesis 17, when circumcision was introduced, God and Abraham entered into a blood covenant. A blood covenant was a legal bond where both parties would shed blood. Abraham’s and his descendants’ blood was shed through circumcision. But Abraham knew that this blood covenant meant that God would also shed His blood at some time. Jesus completed the covenant on the cross. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 (NIV) Now we are no longer bound to the past. We can look to Him who brings the completion of our faith!

パウロは権威のあかしとなるもの、当時のユダヤ人社会で地位を確立するものすべてを持っていました。信者の生活に個人的な計画を押し付けようとする誰よりも、りっぱな実績のある肩書きを持っていました。さて７節を読んでください。人間の見事な業績と権威のあかしは、イエス様を知ることに比べたら何の意味もありません！創世記１７章を振り返ってみましょう。割礼が持ち込まれた時、神とアブラハムは血による契約を結びました。血の契約は、血を流して分かれたものを法的に結ぶものでした。アブラハムと彼の子孫は割礼によって血を流しました。けれどもアブラハムはこの血の契約が、神もまたいつか血を流すことを意味しているとわかっていました。イエス様は十字架の上で、この契約を完了されました。「信仰の創始者であり、完成者であるイエス様から目を離さないでいなさい。イエスは、ご自分の前に置かれた喜びのゆえに、はずかしめをものともせずに十字架を忍び、神の御座の右に着座されました。」へブル１２：２より。もはや私達は過去に縛られることはありません。私達の信仰の完成をもたらした主を仰ぎ見るばかりです！

Jesus, thank you for what you did for me on the cross! Your love amazes and humbles me. Thank you for giving your all for me. I don’t want to be hindered by the past, but reach out to you with arms wide open!

主イエスよ、十字架の上で私のために成し遂げられたことに感謝します。あなたの愛に驚き、自らを低くします。あなたのすべてをささげてくださり感謝します。過去によって妨げられることなく、大きく腕を伸ばしてあなたに届きますように！

Philippians ピリピ 3:8-9

What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. Do you see the power of Paul’s desire to know Jesus? To really KNOW Him? Not to know about Him. Not to have accomplished great things. But to have a heart intimacy with Jesus. All of life was narrowed down to the one goal of knowing and have an intimate relationship with Jesus. Sometimes it is hard to let go of earthly attachments and sentiments, as well as to let go of other’s approval. But reaching out to Jesus means letting go in order to receive more of Him. What holds you back from reaching out for more of Jesus? What keeps you entangled and defiant? What seems to be more important than knowing Jesus? You can coast along in Christianity and never know the fullness of the inner joy of truly knowing Jesus. Or you can let go of earthly entanglements for a more profound and cherished connection with Him.

イエス様を知りたいと渇望する、パウロの気持ちの力強さがわかりますか？イエス様を本当に心から知りたい渇望する気持ちですよ？イエス様のことをただ知ることではありません。それが偉業を達成するからではありません。まさにイエス様と心の通った親密な間柄を持つことだからです。人生のすべてが、イエス様を知って親密な間柄を持つという一つのゴールに絞られます。この世に対する執着と情感を捨てることは、他の人の賛成を得られないのと同様に辛いことです。しかしイエス様に手を伸ばして求めるなら、イエス様をもっと受け入れるために、それまで持っていたものを手放すことです。イエス様にもっと近づくことから、あなたを引き留めるものは何ですか？あなたをまごつかせ抵抗させるものは何ですか？イエス様を知ることより大切なものは何ですか？キリスト信仰に寄りかかって、何の努力もしないで順調に進もうとしても、真にイエス様を知って得る内なる喜びの充実感を知ることは決してないでしょう。主と深みのある大切なつながりを持つためには、この世のしがらみを捨てることです。

Lord, I want more of you! Show me what earthly things entangle me from knowing you more intimately. Examine me. Cleanse me. And show me how to walk in a way that honors you.

Desiring intimacy with Jesus includes the cry both for the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings. Do these two concepts seem to be opposite? In this world there will be struggles and problems. Jesus, knowing that and knowing He was facing the cross, chose to give up heaven because He loves you! He chose to allow Himself to become limited in flesh so He could give us victory through the resurrection. Suffering bonds us to Jesus, cementing the relationship. However through the resurrection we know that in spite of everything we are overcomers. In every surrender of self, every letting go of personal agendas, we can take part in Jesus’ total surrender to death on the cross. But remember that Jesus’ death was the entrance to the total victory of His resurrection. There is total victory in surrender!

イエス様と親密になる望みとは、復活の力と主の受けた苦しみの両方を願うことです。この二つの概念は相反するように思えませんか？この世には苦闘と問題がつきものです。イエス様はそのことを知ったうえで、十字架にかけられることをわかっていながら、天に自らをささげることを選びました。なぜなら主はあなたを愛されたからです！主は復活を通して私達に勝利をもたらすために、限りのある肉の姿となることを受け入れました。苦しみを受けられたことによって、イエス様と私達のつながりはしっかりと固められ絆が結ばれました。それゆえ復活を通して、私達は何事も物ともせずに勝利者となりました。あらゆる自己を捨てて、個人の計画をあきらめてこそ、私達はイエス様の十字架の死による完全な服従の一端を担うことができるのです。しかしイエス様の死は、復活の完全なる勝利の入り口だと言うことを忘れないでください。服従の中に完全な勝利があります！

Thank you Jesus, for the cross! Thank you for suffering for me and giving your all so that I can be set free from sin. Thank you that I can know you. Knowing you is my heart’s desire! Help me to realize the things that hold me back from a closer walk with you!

“Somehow, to attain” is not expressing uncertainty about an eternity with Jesus. But rather it was expressing the earnest struggle of letting go of self to have a stronger, more intimate relationship with Christ. Don’t make the mistake of thinking a one-time decision is the fullness of relationship with Jesus! All relationships take work and efforts. The choice to press on towards deeper intimacy takes energy and a persevering commitment. Jesus desires for our relationship to be a profound and loving bond. Jesus has done everything He can do for us, reaching out to us in love in order that we can have this vital relationship. We are given the choice to respond or not. My husband has an expression about people. They are either “fillers or drainers.” A “filler” is someone who infuses the relationship with so much love and enthusiasm that it is a joy to be with them. A “drainer” is someone who sucks all the energy out of you by their demands and self-centeredness, and constantly demanding more. Take that concept one step further. Are you a drainer or a filler in your relationship with Jesus? Do you constantly demand things your way, complaining when you don’t get your way? Is it all about you? Or are wholeheartedly seeking Him with a grateful, joyful attitude?

「どうにかして達したい」と言う思いは、イエス様と永遠にあることが不確実だからではありません。むしろキリストとより親密なつながりを持つために、自分の考えを念頭から消そうする真剣な苦闘の現れです。たった一度の決心によって、イエス様との関係が満たされるという間違った考え方をしないでください！どんな関係においても努力と奮闘が必要です。もっと深い親密さを追求するためには、エネルギーと忍耐が欠かせません。イエス様は私達との関係が、深みのある愛の絆となって結ばれることを望んでおられます。イエス様は私達がこの絶対必要な関係を持つために、愛の手を指しの伸べて出来る限りのことをすべて成し遂げられました。それに答えるか答えないか、私達には選択権が与えられています。私の夫は人についてある表現を用います。「満たす人、または排水する人」人はそのどちらかである。「満たす人」は豊かな愛と熱意を持って人との交わりを活発にする人で、一緒にいることが喜びとなります。「排水する人」は自分の要求と自己中心から人のエネルギーを吸い上げ、絶えることなく求めて来ます。その概念をさらに進めてみましょう。あなたはイエス様との関係において、排水する人ですか、それとも満たす人ですか？いつも自分のやりたいように要求して、思い通りに行かない時は文句を言っていませんか？すべてが自分のためですか？あるいは感謝と喜びにあふれた態度で、主を心から捜し求めていますか？

Lord, it is just sad to think of the many times I have been a “drainer” rather than someone who seeks you with a grateful heart of thanksgiving! You are so faithful and true! I want to respond to you with a grateful heart, open to receive all that you have to give.

And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained. NIV

Pressing on is not to rest on past victories, but to choose to go forward to deeper and greater revelation of who Jesus is. We, as Christian brothers and sisters, should be longing for more knowledge which leads to a deeper closeness with the Lord. Everything we do and say should spur on others to a more meaningful bond with Jesus. Unfortunately, what we should do and what we actually do are too often polar opposites! What are the things that pull you away instead of urge you on? Identify them! Purge them from your life in favor of a stronger bond with Jesus.

Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. 18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. NIV

兄弟たち。私を見ならう者になってください。また、あなたがたと同じように私たちを手本として歩んでいる人たちに、目を留めてください。18 というのは、私はしばしばあなたがたに言って来たし、今も涙をもって言うのですが、多くの人々がキリストの十字架の敵として歩んでいるからです。19 彼らの最後は滅びです。彼らの神は彼らの欲望であり、彼らの栄光は彼ら自身の恥なのです。彼らの思いは地上のことだけです。

In this epistle of joy the only tears are in verse 18. Why the tears? The tears are for the heartbreak of believers falling for the lies of false teachers that lead them away from the heart and truth of the good news of Jesus. It is a sad thing that anything that encourages us to achieve righteousness by our works is such an easy lie to fall for. This teaching negates Jesus and what He has done for us. It devalues His life, death, and resurrection. This kind of teaching is from the enemy. Any teaching is false that doesn’t proclaimed Jesus as Lord and Savior. Those who teach this false doctrine are self-serving. They teach “truthiness” (taking bits and pieces of truth, weaving it in and out of their ideas). This delights the devil because he specializes in this style of deceit and uses it to cause us to be misled. Don’t fall for his deceit, no matter how it is packaged!

この喜びの手紙の中で１８節にだけ涙が出てきます。なぜ涙が出てくるのでしょうか？その涙は信者が、イエス様の救いの心と真実から引き離され、偽の教師に騙されてしまう悲しみから来るものです。努力して義を達成しようと自分を奮い立たせてきたことが、簡単なうそによってくずれてしまうことは悲しいことです。この偽りの教えは、イエス様本人と、イエス様が私達のために成し遂げられたことを否定するものです。それは主のいのち、死、復活の価値をおとしめるものです。このような教えは悪魔によるものです。イエス様を主、救い主として述べ伝えない教えはすべて偽物です。偽りの教理を教える者は、自己の利益に奉仕しています。彼らは「真実らしき物」（真実を少しだけ取り入れて、自分の思想を一緒に編み込んだもの）を教えます。これは悪魔を喜ばせます、なぜなら悪魔はこのだますスタイルを得意とし、私達が自分を見失うために用いるからです。たとえどんなにうまく見せかけてあっても、悪魔にだまされないでください！

Lord, teach me your truth through your word. I don’t want to fall for the snares of the devil. But my desire is to walk in your truth! For you truth is the pathway for life.

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. NIV

けれども、私たちの国籍は天にあります。そこから主イエス・キリストが救い主としておいでになるのを、私たちは待ち望んでいます。21 キリストは、万物をご自身に従わせることのできる御力によって、私たちの卑しいからだを、ご自身の栄光のからだと同じ姿に変えてくださるのです。

We are citizens of heaven! As a person who has lived over one third of my life outside of my “home” country, I don’t have a tremendously strong sense of belonging to any country. I feel like an alien in all three of the countries I have lived. This allows me to have a far stronger sense of being a citizen of heaven. Being a citizen of heaven means we need to live according to heavenly culture. Heaven is a kingdom. Our allegiance must be to the King! He needs to be the ruler of our hearts! Making Jesus your King and learning to live by heavenly standards is not a burdensome thing. It is liberating. Remember that heaven is the kingdom of love, peace, and joy. Living in heavenly cultural ways here transforms our hearts and minds in preparation for that time when our bodies are also transformed and we enter heaven. I can’t begin to imagine how incredible that will be, can you?

私達の国籍は天にあります！人生の三分の一以上を、母国から離れて生活してきた私にとっては、どの国に対してもずば抜けた強い所属感はありません。今まで住んだ３つの国のどこに居ても、自分を外国人のように感じます。このことが私に、天国に国籍があるという強い親密感を抱かせます。天に国籍があると言うことは、天の文化に従って生きる必要があるということです。天の国は神の国です。私達は王に忠誠を誓わなくてはいけません！王が私達の心を支配することになります！イエス様をあなたの王とすることと、天国の基準で生きることを学ぶことは、耐え難い負担ではありません。むしろ自由になることです。天国は愛、平和、喜びの御国であることを覚えてください。天の文化に従ってこの世に生きることは、私達の体もまた変えられて天国に入る時の準備として、自分の心と思いを変えていくことです。どんなに素晴らしいことか私には想像もつきません、あなたには想像できますか？

Jesus, you are my King and my Lord. I want to live like it. I know that too often I fail in my attempts. Open my understanding and my heart to receive your teaching. I choose to be teachable!

Therefore, my brothers, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends! 2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord. 3 Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. NIV

そういうわけですから、私の愛し慕う兄弟たち、私の喜び、冠よ。どうか、このように主にあってしっかりと立ってください。私の愛する人たち。2 ユウオデヤに勧め、スントケに勧めます。あなたがたは、主にあって一致してください。3 ほんとうに、真の協力者よ。あなたにも頼みます。彼女たちを助けてやってください。この人たちは、いのちの書に名のしるされているクレメンスや、そのほかの私の同労者たちとともに、福音を広めることで私に協力して戦ったのです。

Summing up what heavenly culture is all about, Paul said we are to have the humble attitude of Jesus, make Jesus our Lord and King, and live in harmony and unity. Obviously there was some struggle between Euodia and Syntyche. Yet common ground could be found by following heavenly cultural principles. Romans 12 gives a different perspective on these principles, yet it is in complete harmony with Philippians. We need to learn how to implement godly standards and principles into our lifestyles and relationships. It takes effort, but the results are invaluable and powerful.

天の文化について要約すれば、パウロいわく、イエス様に対してへりくだった態度をとること、イエス様を我が主、我が王とすること、調和と統一の中で生きることです。ユウオデヤとスントケの間に争いがあったことは明らかです。天国の文化の原理に従えば、見解の一致は見つかるはずです。ローマ１２章はこれらの原理について違った視点で書かれていますが、そこにはピリピ書との完全な調和が見られます。私達は自分のライフスタイルと人間関係の中に、神の御心に添った基準と原理を実践する学びが必要です。それには努力がいりますが、その結果は測り知れないほどの価値があり、力にあふれたものです。

Lord, learning to be a citizen of the kingdom of love is not always easy. We humans all want unconditional love and acceptance given to us. But we aren’t always willing to give it. Lord, by your grace and wisdom help me to be a giver, not a demander, of love.

主よ、愛の御国の国籍が持てるように学ぶことは、決して簡単なことではありません。私達人間は誰でも、無条件な愛で受け入れられることを求めます。それなのに自ら進んで人に与えようとはしません。主よ、あなたの恵みと知恵によって、愛をせがむ者ではなく、与える者になる力をください。

What does it mean to rejoice in the Lord? It seems a little ambiguous, doesn’t it? How does one go about rejoicing in the Lord? Especially when unpleasant circumstances surround you, or you have an unknown future or you feel depressed…Rejoice? It feels faking it to try to rejoice when you are confused and stressed, doesn’t it? Rejoicing doesn’t come because circumstances are perfect or your condition is excellent. Learning to rejoice is a spiritual discipline. It is about looking at God, His character, and His history of faithfulness. Rejoicing isn’t about you; it’s about God, His character, and His work. To rejoice you need to know the Lord more intimately! That happens as we seek to know His character.

主にあって喜ぶとはどんな意味でしょうか？少しあいまいだと思いませんか？いかにして主にあって喜べばいいのでしょうか？特に不愉快な状況にさらされている時、あるいは将来に不安をかかえている時、落ち込んでいる時．．．喜ぶことができますか？自分が混乱している時、ストレスを感じている時に喜ぼうとすることは、自分を偽ることだと思いませんか？周りの状況が完璧だから、あなたのコンディションが優れているから喜ぶわけではありません。喜ぶことを学ぶことは、霊的な修業です。それは神を仰ぎ見て、神のご性格と過去の真実に目を向けることです。自分のことを喜ぶのではなくて、神、神のご性格、神のお働きを喜ぶことです。喜ぶためには、主をもっと親密に知ることが欠かせません。私達が神のご性格を知りたいと捜し求める時に、実現します。

Lord, reveal more and more of your character to me. I want to rejoice with understanding of who you are! I want to know you in a deeper and more intimate way.

It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died — more than that, who was raised to life — is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. NIV

You can rejoice in the truth that God, the Righteous Judge, has saved you. He sacrificed His greatest gift so that you can really know Him. His love and mercy are always there for us. Celebrate and rejoice the One who could condemn us for our sins, but doesn’t do that when we turn to Him. Jesus not only receives us, but He is also interceding for us. His love surrounds us. We have so many reasons to rejoice!

神がその義によって、私達を救ってくださったという真実にあって喜んでください。あなたが神を本当に知るために、偉大なる贈物をいけにえとしてささげてくださいました。神の愛とあわれみは、いつも私達のためにあります。私達に罪を定めようとした者も、私達が神に立ち返った時には、なすすべがないことを祝い喜んでください。イエス様は私達を受け入れてくださっただけではなく、とりなしてもくださいました。主の愛によって私達は包まれています。私達には喜ぶたくさんの理由があります！

Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? ...37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. NIV

私たちをキリストの愛から引き離すのはだれですか。患難ですか、苦しみですか、迫害ですか、飢えですか、裸ですか、危険ですか、剣ですか。… 37 しかし、私たちは、私たちを愛してくださった方によって、これらすべてのことの中にあっても、圧倒的な勝利者となるのです。38 私はこう確信しています。死も、いのちも、御使いも、権威ある者も、今あるものも、後に来るものも、力ある者も、39 高さも、深さも、そのほかのどんな被造物も、私たちの主キリスト・イエスにある神の愛から、私たちを引き離すことはできません。

God’s love is permanent, eternally unconditional, and deep. His love alone is a reason to rejoice. But there is more than His love to rejoice about. When I read these verses in Romans, I remember when I was a young girl and we were sailing on a ship to Manila, Republic of the Philippines. Just about a week into the voyage we experienced terrible typhoons and the ship was tossed around like it was a toy. The captain of the ship said it was the worst crossing of the Pacific Ocean he had ever experienced. To get away from the typhoons the captain navigated us through the Mariana Trench, the deepest place in the Pacific Ocean. I remember it clearly. It was a breathtakingly beautiful moonlit night with the islands dotted around us and the sea as smooth as glass. When I read these verses that’s how I visualize God’s love—deep, unfathomable, smooth, and surrounding me. No matter what storms I have been through, His love is always there to calm. We can never touch the depth of it, no matter how far down we dive into His love. Isn’t that a reason to rejoice?

神の愛は、永遠に変わることなく無条件で深いものです。喜ぶ理由は、神の愛だけにあります。喜ぶべき神の愛に勝るものはありません。ローマ書のこれらの節を読む度に、私がまだ幼かった頃、フィリピン共和国のマニラに向けて航海していたことを思い出します。船出からちょうど一週間たった頃もの凄い台風にぶつかり、まるでおもちゃの船のように激しく揺れました。船長は今までで最悪の太平洋横断になったと言いました。台風を避けるために、船長は太平洋で一番深いマリアナ海溝を通過して航海しました。その時のことを今でもはっきりと覚えています。その夜は思わず息をのむほどの美しい月光に照らされていました。辺りには島々が点在し、海面はガラスのようになめらかに輝いていました。これらの節を読むたびに、測り知れないほど深く、なめらかな神の愛に包まれている自分の姿が目に見えるようです。たとえどんな嵐が来ても、それを鎮める神の愛はいつも存在します。どんなに深くもぐっても、決して神の愛の底に触れることはできません。神にあって喜ぶ理由になりましたか？

Lord, thank you for your deep, abiding love! Your love calms me when all around me is in uproar. I can trust you and rest in your love!

主よ、あなたの深い変わらぬ愛に感謝します。たとえ周りが大騒ぎしていても、あなたの愛が私を鎮めてくださいます。あなたを信頼して、あなたの愛に身を任せます！

Jeremiah knew what it was like to face devastation, to feel helpless and broken hearted. But he learned the secret of rejoicing when he remembered the truth of the Lord’s great love and His compassion. God is faithful. God was faithful then. He is faithful now. And He will be faithful tomorrow. He never changes. You can count on His faithfulness. You may not understand what is going on or why, but circumstances are not your savior nor are they what you should base your hope on. God knows the reason and the purpose behind the turmoil we face. He knows how to navigate us through the rough waters. Keep your eyes on Him, His love, His compassion, and His faithfulness and rejoice!

Lord, I don’t know what the future holds. It can be scary when I think only about the unknown. But you know. I rest in your faithfulness. I know that you will navigate and be with me each step of the way. My hope is in you. I rejoice in your faithfulness!

I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,

and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. NIV

わたしは主によって大いに楽しみ、わたしのたましいも、わたしの神によって喜ぶ。主がわたしに、救いの衣を着せ、正義の外套をまとわせ、花婿のように栄冠をかぶらせ、花嫁のように宝玉で飾ってくださるからだ。

Think about the things you have done in the past, the wrong attitudes, wrong motivations, and harsh things you have thought or said. Then understand that God reached down from His holy throne and made a way that we can be saved from our sins. But that wasn’t enough for Him. He went one step further and makes us righteous through Jesus. His salvation, His righteousness cleanses us from the past. When we turn to Him the past is erased just as if we had never sinned. Wow! Isn’t His expression of love amazing! That’s reason to rejoice!

過去のあなたの間違った態度、間違った気持ち、残酷な考えや言葉について思い浮かべてみてください。それから、神が聖なる御座から手を下ろして、私達を罪から救い出してくださったことをよく考えてください。しかも神にとってそれだけでは十分ではありませんでした。神はさらに進んで、イエス様を通して私達を義にかなう者にしてくださいました。神の救いと義によって、私達は過去から清められます。私達が神に立ち返った時に、過去はまるで罪がなかったかのようにぬぐい去られます。すごい！神の愛は驚きです！これこそ喜ぶ理由です！

Lord, it is truly awesome the way that you, the Holy God, have given me salvation and given me a robe of righteousness. How can I thank you enough? How can I praise you enough? I will rejoice in who you are!

主よ、聖なる神、あなたが私を救い、正義の外套をまとわせてくださったことは、本当に素晴らしいことです。どうしたら感謝の気持ちを十分表せるでしょうか？どうしたらあなたを十分にたたえることができるでしょうか？あなたのご性格を感謝して喜びます！

Psalms 詩篇 86:15

But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. NIV

しかし主よ。あなたは、あわれみ深く、情け深い神。怒るのにおそく、恵みとまことに富んでおられます。

It doesn’t matter what man can do to us. Man is fickle. But God is compassionate, gracious, and faithful. His love is abundant. When all around you is changing and uncertainty seems to surround you like a cloud, God is unchangeable. You can count on the unchanging character of God. He is not unfeeling or uncaring. He is real. He looks for ways to express His love. All you have to do is open your spiritual eyes to see His grace and compassion!

人間に何かされても気にすることはありません。人間が気まぐれです。しかし神は、あわれみ深く恵み深く誠実です。神の愛はあり余るほど豊かです。たとえあなたの周りの状況が一変して、まるで雲のように当てにならないものばかりに思えても、神だけは決して変わりません。神の変わることのないご性格に頼ることができます。神は無情で冷淡な方ではありません。神は実在されます。神はご自分の愛を表す方法を探しておられます。あなたがなすべきことは、神の恵みとあわれみが見える霊的な目を開くことです！

Lord, your love in action is too wonderful for words. I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate you and your awesome character. I love you for who you are, my Lord and my King. And I will rejoice in you!

主よ、あなたの愛は、言葉にできないほど素晴らしいものです。どうやって表現したらいいのかわからないほど、あなたに、あなたの素晴らしいご性格に感謝しています。我が主、我が王よ、あなた故にあなたを愛しています。そしてあなたにあって喜びます！
