Colossians 3:16 コロサイ3章16節
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. NIV
キリストのことばをあなたがたのうちに豊かに住まわせ、知恵を尽くして互いに教え、互いに戒め、詩と賛美と霊の歌とにより、感謝にあふれて心から神に向かって歌いなさい。
What does “Let the word of Christ dwell in you” mean? Having God’s word dwell in our hearts expresses having your complete attention and to “feel at home” with God’s word. Jesus said in John 15:4 “You must keep on growing in me and I will grow in you” (Phillips) How can you keep growing in Him? This relationship grows as you let your mind think about God’s Word. In the Word you will discover more and more about who Jesus is. Seek to know Jesus. Set your will to let Jesus be your all in all. He will fill your heart with His presence. Besides discovering more about Jesus, His word gives amazingly true godly wisdom. As you let His word dwell in your heart and spirit, godly wisdom starts to come naturally to you. Praise and encouraging words will flow from hearts that are grateful. The more we personally discover who Jesus is, the more grateful we will become. Remember, God’s word dwelling in you is interactive and powerful!
「あなたの中にキリストの御言葉を住まわせる」とはどう言う意味でしょう？あなたの完全な慕いと、神様の御言葉と共にくつろぎを表し、私たちの心に住まわせると言うことです。イエス様は、ヨハネ15章4節で、「わたしにとどまりなさい。わたしもあなたがたの中にとどまります。」と言われました。あなたはどのようにして神様の中で成長し続けられるでしょうか？この関係は神様の御言葉を考えさせることで成長します。そして、イエス様についてより発見していくことでしょう。イエス様を知るように求めなさい。イエス様にすべてのあなたの意思を委ねなさい。そうすれば、神様の御前と共に満たされることでしょう。イエス様について発見する他に、御言葉は、驚くほど真実の信心深い知恵を与えることでしょう。あなたの心と霊に住まわせることで、その知恵は自然とあなたにやって来ます。賞賛と励ましの御言葉は、感謝の心から注がれます。より私たちが個人的にイエス様を発見することで、より快適になっていきます。あなたの中に神様の御言葉を住まわせることは、互いに影響し合い、力強いことだと言うことを覚えておいてください。
Thank you, Lord for your Word. Thank you that you reach out with wisdom and words of love through your unchanging, powerful Word!

The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. NIV
主の御教えは完全で、魂を生き返らせ、主の証は確かでわきまえのない者を賢くする。主の戒めは正しくて、人の心を喜ばせ、主の仰せは清くて人の目を明るくする。
You may wonder what words like law, statutes, precepts and command really mean to us. Don’t we live in God’s grace? Yes, we have been saved by grace. And yes, God gives us enabling grace to live. But His grace isn’t a license to sin. How can we keep ourselves from falling for the tempter’s lies? By knowing God’s word! Look at the meaning of the words in these verses. The Hebrew word for “law” is torah. The basic meaning of torah is teaching and instruction. Doesn’t it stand to reason that if we are to have a teachable heart we should receive God’s perfect teaching? Job 36:22 says “…who teaches like Him?” We, as believers, are citizens of heaven. Therefore we need to live like it! “Statues” are engraved customs. In other words godly standards for living are to be engraved on our hearts so we can live wisely, honoring God. “Precepts” are the responsibilities God has appointed for His people. Responsibilities from God show His value of us and express His love. Remember that He also gives us His enabling grace so we can perform our responsibilities. The last word, “command” is God’s directions for how to live a godly life. The all blend and work together to purify our hearts and bring us peace and joy while keeping us safe from the harm that sin causes.
制定法、指令書、命令のような法律的な言葉の本当の意味とは謎かもしれません。私たちは神様の恵みの中に住んでいますよね？そうです、私たちは恵みにより救われました。そして、神様は私たちに生きるために可能な恵みを与えられます。ですが、この恵みは罪の許可ではありません。私たちはどのようにして誘惑の偽りに、落ちないようにできるでしょうか？それは、神様の御言葉を知ることによってです！聖書の各箇所の意味をみてみましょう。へブルの言葉で法律とは律法です。律法とは基本的に教えです。私たちによく教えを聞く心があれば、神様の完全な教えを受けるべきと、理にかなっていませんか？ヨブ36章22節は、「神のような教師が、誰がいようか」と言います。私たち、信者として、天国の住民です。それゆえに、私たちはそのように生きる必要があります。像とは彫刻の風習です。別の言葉で、私たちが賢明に生きることができるように、神様を敬う基準が我々の心に刻み込まれています。そして、神様を礼拝します。指針とは、神様が主の人々に約束した責任です。神様からの責任は価値と愛を表します。また、可能な恵みを与えられるので、私たちの責任も表現することができます。最後の言葉、司令とは、神様を礼拝する人生を送るための方向です。私たちの心から罪を取り除くため、罪が引き起こす危害から安全にしておける間は、一緒に働き平安と喜びのすべてが調和するのです。
Thank you for your perfect Word Lord! Thank you for being a wise teacher who knows how to teach each person in a way that they can understand and respond.
神様の完璧な御言葉に感謝します。理解し答えられるように各々に添った賢明な教師となられることに感謝します。

Hebrews 4:12 へブル4章12節
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. NIV
神のことばは生きていて、力があり、両刃の剣よりも鋭く、魂と霊、関節と骨髄の分かれ目さえも刺し通し、心のいろいろな考えやはかりごと判別する事ができます。
God’s Word works in our thoughts, hearts, motivations and attitude, revealing both what is good and what is detrimental to our spiritual health. His Word cuts out and separates the wholesome from the unwholesome. It is active, operative and effective working in us to energize our relationship with the Lord. His Word exposes where we are in error, teaching us how to do what is right in God’s eyes. But how can we let His Word work in us if we don’t read it? How can we let God’s Word energize us if we don’t follow it? Just as a sword has no value if not used, so God’s Word becomes ineffective if we don’t read it. We need to open our hearts and minds to hear what the Lord says through His word, joyfully receiving instruction and lovingly obeying it. Staying in God’s Word will continually teach us and show us how to do God’s will!
神様の御言葉は、私たちの思考、心、やる気、態度、良いこと悪いことの両方を明らかにします。御言葉は不健全なものから健康的なものを切り離します。それは、活動、稼動的で神様とのエネルギーある関係に効果を与えます。神様の御言葉は、間違いを露出させ、神様の目の中で正しいことを教えられます。でも、もし御言葉を読まなければ、どのように働きがあるのでしょうか？そして御言葉に添わなければ、私たちにそのエネルギーを与えられることができるのでしょうか？使用しなければ何の価値もない剣のように、御言葉を読まなければ効果がありません。私たちは心を開き、御言葉、教えと従う喜びを受け取ることを通じて神様が言おうとされていることに耳を傾ける必要があります。御言葉の教えと神様の意思にとどまることです。
Thank you for your Word! Thank you for teaching me though it. I want my heart to be open and tender before you.

And this is the word that was preached to you. NIV
あなたがたが新しく生まれたのは、朽ちる種からではなく、朽ちない種からであり、生ける、いつまでも変わることのない、神の言葉によるのです。「人はみな草のようで、その栄えはみな草の花のようだ。草はしおれ花は散る。しかし主の言葉はとこしえに変わることがない。」とあるからです。あなたがたに宣べ伝えられた福音のことばがこれです。
Peter quotes Isaiah 40:6-9 in declaring the enduring, eternal word of God. People think they are so smart. Everyone withers and dies! Think of men like Hitler. He tried to start a thousand year reign by terrorizing, manipulating, and controlling people. He burned Bibles, took Jesus and the cross away, replacing it with Nazism. And what happened? His empire was defeated and he committed suicide. Even good, honorable men like Abraham Lincoln die. Nothing we value but the word of God lasts forever! Consider that when the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered in 1947, a manuscript of the book of Isaiah, the very book that declares God’s word will remain forever, was found intact! The scroll written centuries before is the same as we read now! God’s Word is eternal, effective, and life changing! You can trust God to speak to you personally though His divine Word!

Thank you for the eternalness of your Word, Lord. Thank you that you continue to teach through it. All the things of this earth will pass away, but your Word endures forever! Hallelujah!

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. NIV
あなたの御言葉は、私の足のともしび、私の道の光です。
God’s Word gives light for right now! His Word gives comfort, wisdom, and direction and teaches us how to live. We gain understanding and, as we act in God’s ways, we discover the joy of obedience. Micah 6:8 says “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Through this we gain understanding of three things that God especially values…justice, mercy and relationship. Right here we learn a powerful value system. Then as we read Matthew 5-7 we discover how to implement those values. You can trust God’s word to enlighten you. But that means you do need to open it, read it and contemplate what you have read.
神様の御言葉は今現在のために光を与えています！御言葉は快適な、知恵と生き方を教えます。私たちは理解し、神様の道により行動すると、服従の喜びを発見します。ミカ6章8章には「主はあなたに告げられた。人よ。何が良いことなのか。主は何をあなたに求めておられるのか。それは、ただ公儀を行い、誠実を愛し、へりくだってあなたの神とともに歩むことではないか。」と言います。これを通じて、神様の正義、慈悲と関係の3つのことを理解します。ここでは力強い価値について学びます。後に、マタイ5-7で、それらの価値を実行する方法を発見します。あなたはあなたを照らす神様の御言葉を信頼することができます。ですが、あなたがそれを開けて読んで、あなたが読んだものを熟考する必要があることを意味します。
Thank you for the light and truth in your word that teaches me how to live in a way that honors you. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know you and you do know. I know that you will continue to guide me through each day. I trust you!

あなたに罪を犯さないため、私はあなたのことばを心にたくわえました。
The entire Psalm 119 is a love letter to the wonder of God’s Word. Take some time today and read it. Make notes about what the Psalmist said about the Word of God. And what look for what this Psalm expresses about how the Word of God teaches and how we should respond to it. How many times do you find the word “love” there? God’s word is valuable. This, the longest chapter of the Bible, expresses over and over how valuable it is. As we really learn to cherish God’s word and live more fully by it we also need to lovingly share His truth with others!
詩篇119章全体は、神様の御言葉の驚くラブレターです。今日にでも時間をとって読んでみて下さい。ダビデが聖書について言ったことについて、書きとめてください。そして、詩篇では神様の御言葉がどのように教えられて、私たちがどう応えるべきかについて表現します。あなたは、愛と言う言葉を何度見つけましたか？神様の御言葉は価値があります。これは、聖書の中で一番長い箇所で、どれほどに価値があるかについて何度も何度も表現します。御言葉を本当に学び、満たされて生きることにより、また神様の真実を他の人々とも共有する必要があります！

Colossians 3:17 コロサイ3章17節
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. NIV
あなたがたのすることは、ことばによる行いによるとを問わず、すべて主イエスの名によってなし、主によって父なる神に感謝しなさい。
In theory this verse makes sense. But in day-to-day life, how do we apply it? It has everything to do with dependence on the Lord. Live in God-honoring ways with an attitude that honors Jesus. You represent Jesus to others—to family, friends, and neighbors. Does your attitude and do your actions attract people to Jesus or push them away? Jesus said the Father was looking for those who worship in spirit and truth (John 4:23). If our daily attitude and actions don’t honor God, we have not totally grasped the meaning of what it means to truly worship the Lord! True worship is our daily expressing our love, honor, and reverence for the Lord.
この節の理論は道理にかないます。しかし、私たちは日ごとの生活の中でどうやって適応しますか？それは神様に頼りみする全てのことです。イエス様を賛美する態度と共に、神様をあがめ生きることです。あなたは他の人-家族や友達、隣人などにイエス様を表します。あなたの態度と行動は人々にイエス様を魅了しますか？それとも彼らを追いやってしまいますか？イエス様は、父は聖霊と真実の中で賛美するものを探しておられたと言われました。（ヨハネ4章23節）もし、あなたの日々の態度と行動が神様をあがめないものだとしたら、何が真実の賛美の意味かを全体的にはとらえられてはいません！真実の賛美とは、毎日の私たちの神様に対する愛、あがめと尊敬を表しています。
Lord, how can I improve on daily expressing my love and honor for you? Where do I fall down? I need your wisdom and grace to live. I really do want to honor you in all that I do!
神様、どうすれば私の愛とあなたをあがめる表現を日々向上できますか？私は何処に崩れ落ちますか？生きるためには、あなたの知恵と恵みが必要です。私のする全ての中で、本当にあなたをあがめたいです！

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. NIV
妻たちよ、主にある者にふさわしく、夫に従いなさい。
Worship is valuing the worth of God and living like you do. What better place to show the Lord how much you value Him than in relationships? The emotional needs of men and women are a little different. A man needs to feel significant. Often a man finds significance in his work. But the Lord designed marriage for the wife to show her husband respect as she esteems and admires him. The word “submit” doesn’t mean be “a rug to be walked on.” But it is learning how to value your husband by assuring him of his significance. God doesn’t favor men above women. But He designed us differently with purpose. As wives learn to honor their husbands and reinforce their sense of value, they are expressing worship to God. The wife expresses the heart of the home. As children and friends see godly care and respect, they will have a clearer picture of the love of God. If you are a woman take time to read Proverbs 31 to see a picture of a godly woman.
賛美とは、神様の重要性と人生に価値があります。関係の中よりも、神様にあなたが価値あるものだと見せる良い場所とは何ですか？男性と女性の感情は少し異なります。男性は重要だと感じる必要があります。よく、仕事にその重要性を見付けます。しかし、神様は結婚を妻が夫に敬服して、尊敬を見せる妻のために設計されました。「服従」とは、「歩くためのじゅうたん 」と言う意味ではありません。しかし、それは重要性を保証することにより夫の価値の仕方を学んでいます。神様は男性を女性より優れたものとはしません。しかし、私たちを目的を用いて異なったものとして設計されました。妻たちが夫を尊敬し、その価値を補強するとして、彼らは神様への賛美を表しているのです。妻は家庭の心を表します。子供や友達が信心深い世話と尊敬をみて、明確な神様の愛を持つことでしょう。あなたがもし女性ならば、時間を取り信心深い女性をみるために、箴言31章を読んでみてください。
Lord, show me how to love my spouse in a way that honors you and is a testimony of your gracious love to others.
あなたを褒めたたえ、あなたの恵みを他人にも証する、配偶者への愛し方をみせてください。

Colossians 3:19 コロサイ3章19節
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. NIV
夫たちよ、妻を愛しなさい。つらく当たってはいけません。
A woman needs to feel loved and cherished. In Ephesians 5:25 the pattern for husbandly love is, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” The word used for how a husband is to love his wife is “agape” meaning godly, unconditional, and sacrificial love like Jesus gives. The husband is to love his wife, not demanding his rights or putting her down, but by laying down his life for her. If the Biblical pattern is followed, a marriage becomes a place of giving, not demanding. It becomes the opportunity to think of ways to lovingly respect one another, learning the discipline of not speaking or acting harshly. Many of you are probably thinking, “yeah, when my spouse treats me the way he/she is suppose to, then I will treat them right.” That’s the wrong attitude! It always begins with you! This is not easy to do! But thank God that He gives the grace to do what He has called us to do! The devil fights to destroy the fabric of a godly marriage so we must be on guard, looking for ways to honor God in our marriages.
女性は愛されていると感じる必要があります。夫の愛のための模範がエペソ人への手紙5章25章にあります。「夫よ、キリストが教会を愛し、身を任したように、あなたの妻を愛せ。」夫がどれほど妻を愛するかに使われたこの言葉は、信心深く、無条件のイエス様が与えられたような神様の愛を意味します。夫は妻を愛し、自分本位や八つ当たりをせず、人生を捧げるものです。聖書の模範に添うならば、結婚は自分本位ではなく与える場所となります。お互いに愛し合い尊敬しあい、また訓練となり、考える機会となります。ほとんどの人が、まず相手が思い通りにしてくれれば、後から自分もすると思っていることでしょう。それは間違った態度です！常に自分から始めるのです！簡単ではありません！悪魔は信心深い結婚を破壊しようと戦いますので、私たちは警戒し、結婚の中に神様の栄光を探さなければなりません。
Lord, you designed marriage with purpose and reason. Please teach me how to be the kind of spouse that honors you!
神様、あなたは目的と理由と共に結婚を設計されました。あなたをあがめる配偶者となれるように教えて下さい！

Colossians 3:20-21 コロサイ3章20～21節
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. NIV
子供たちよ、全てのことについて、両親に従いなさい。それは主に喜ばれることだからです。父たちよ、子供を怒らせてはいけません。彼らを気落ちさせないためです。
I can remember my mother saying to me over and over, “If you don’t learn to obey me you’ll never learn how to obey God?” Mom disciplined me with the idea of bringing me to repentance—not just sorry I was caught, but truly sorry for what I did. She was never abusive but always a bit dramatic! I never remember her punishing me in anger, but always in love. It made me want to obey her. She’d tell me in quiet ways the reasoning behind the rules. We often laughed together and just talked. She taught by example as well as with words. We need to teach our children that obedience isn’t a harsh taskmaster, but brings something that brings freedom. As parents we need our children to know that they are loved. We need to encourage and discipline them without anger, but with the goal of repentance.
私は母が、何度も何度も私にこう言ったことを覚えています。「もし私に従わなければ、神様への従い方を学ぶことができないでしょう？」母は、私のうわべではなく、真の間違いを謝罪させ、悔い改めさすために考えを用いて訓練しました。彼女は決して乱暴にならず、いつもやや大げさでした！私を怒りの中で罰することなく、いつも愛の中にありました。それは、私を彼女に従わせました。彼女は静かに法則の後ろにある理由を教えました。私たちはよく笑い、ただ話しをしました。彼女は言葉同様に例えを用いて教えました。私たちは子供たちに厳しくするのではなく何か自由をもって、服従させることを教える必要があります。両親として、子供たちに愛されていると言うことを知らせる必要があります。私たちは、怒りを抜きに悔い改めのゴールをもって、励まし訓練する必要があります。
Lord, you are the perfect Father. Teach me how to be a godly parent who leads the children you have entrusted into my care in such a way that they will see you clearly.
神様、あなたは完璧な父です。あなたを明確にみられるよう、委ねられるよう、子供たちを導ける、信心深い親のなり方を教えて下さい。

Colossians 3:22 コロサイ3章22節
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. NIV
奴隷たちよ、全てのことについて、地上の主人に従いなさい。人のご機嫌取りのようなうわべだけの仕え方ではなく、主を恐れかしこみつつ、真心から従いなさい。
Slavery was a fact of life in Paul’s time. Paul was not stating approval of slavery, but rather the type of attitude one should have. (If you read the book of Philemon you will see that he was telling Philemon to treat his runaway slave as a brother in Christ!) We are not literal slaves. But, for example, are you in bondage to your job? The goal isn’t to be a people pleaser but to please God. There is a HUGE difference! One is doing things to win man’s fickle approval. The other is done as an act of love and worship towards God by giving to God your motivation behind your attitude and actions. Our work ethic should reflect our commitment to the Lord. For years my Dad was an “absentee father.” He was busy “serving the Lord” and had little time or patience for his family. He though he was doing the right thing, but each one of his children felt neglected. Our faith didn’t come because of Dad’s example, but in spite of it! It was Mom’s example that led us to the Lord. It doesn’t matter what excuse you give, if you are a slave to your work then you need to rethink your motives and attitude. We can try to hide our slavery to work behind high sounding things. But God see your heart and you can’t fool Him! We need to be careful that those you work with and your families can daily see Jesus in you! Learn how to daily walk with Him!

We are to be trustworthy, conscientious, and competent workers, not to please men but as an act of worship to the Lord. Our rewards here are passing. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, “… seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When done for selfish reasons our labor is ultimately valueless. Our real reward is eternal. Our motivation and attitude are what matter. God looks at our hearts. If you have a saving account or a plan for saving money, you have it for later use. Similarly, we make investments in the kingdom of heaven and those last for eternity!

God doesn’t care whether you are the boss or the servant, “sempai” or “kohai,” master or slave. Your position doesn’t impress God. It isn’t the heights of success you may achieve or how lowly you may feel your work is. God honors attitude. If people treat us wrongfully we are to respond with blessing! Luke 6:27-29 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic.” That’s so hard to do. But if we can respond as Jesus did, it releases God’s power in the situation. Leave the results in God’s hands. Be careful. If you have a position that put others under you, don’t “lord it over them.” But treat them with godly love and kindness. That doesn’t mean you are to be a pushover. It takes more strength to be gracious than to be a bully. But it does mean you have the motivation and an attitude that honors Jesus

Prayer is a very real and vital communication with God. While Jesus lived on earth prayer was very much a part of His everyday life. Hebrews 7:25 tells us that even in heaven Jesus is forever interceding for us. Prayer is not about trying to “make” God do things our way. It is not begging and nagging, but learning to do things God’s way. You can talk to God as a loving Father, as a dear friend, and as someone who loves you. There is nothing you can’t talk about or talk over with Him. Just as communication is vital in human relationships, prayer adds vitality to our relationship with God. Some important things to notice in this verse are: 1) faithfulness in praying, 2) watchfulness, and 3) thankfulness. We will examine each of these more closely this week.

Prayer doesn’t demand a special place or time. You can pray wherever you are, any time, and about anything. Prayer combines such elements as confession, praise, requests, and thanksgiving. But most of all, prayer is tuning your heart and thoughts “god-ward.” There are occasions when you spend special time in concentrated prayer seeking God. There are times of just talking and times of heartbrokenness during which you pour out your heart. Lamentations 3:41 says “Let us lift up our hands and pray from our hearts to God in heaven.” (NCV) This is a call to repentance. But I believe also that in times of sadness or overwhelming periods that is exactly what we do, “lift our hands and hearts to God,” pouring out your heart to God. David talks about prayer in Psalm 34. Look at verses 4, 15 and 17-18 as an example. Verse 4, “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.” Verse15 “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry” and verse 17-18, “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Many of David’s Psalms are prayers that are beautifully eloquent, catching the emotions of the moment. But you don’t have to be poetic or have elaborate words to simply pray from your heart. That is all God asks from us.

Lord, thank you for the beautiful prayers in the Bible that help us know how important prayer is to you. I just want to lift my hands and heart to you, acknowledging you as Lord. Prayer is a vital link to you. I am so glad that I can pray anytime, anywhere, with simple words to communicate with you.

Nehemiah 4:8-9 ネヘミヤ４：８－９
They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. 9 But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat. NIV
彼らはみな共にエルサレムに攻め入り、混乱を起こそうと陰謀を企てた。9 しかし私たちは、私たちの神に祈り、彼らに備えて日夜見張りを置いた。
Nehemiah is a wonderful example of a great prayer warrior. He had gone to Jerusalem to build up the walls after they had been destroyed by Babylon. He faced lots of opposition. Throughout the book of Nehemiah, he tells about his quick prayers as he set about doing the work God had called him to do. He enemies taunted him but he answered in chapter 6 verses 2-4, “… they were scheming to harm me; 3 so I sent messengers to them with this reply: "I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?" 4 Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer.” Nehemiah was committed to the Lord and to the task God had given him. He wouldn’t give in to the enemies of the work of the Lord, but he stayed committed to the God-appointed task. His constant prayer was “O God, strengthen my hands.” (Nehemiah 6:9 NKJV) Nehemiah was watchful and prayerful. That is the way we need to be as well. Remember what Jesus said to his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane, (Mark 14:38) “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." (NIV) Because prayer is not to be routine or memorized, we can be committed to watchfulness, carefulness and heartfelt prayerfulness.

Lord, thank you for teaching us how to be diligent and watchful. Nehemiah prayed and posted a guard. He put his faith in action. Show me Lord where I need to be actively watchful and where I need to let go and let you be God in the situation.

Thankfulness expresses trust and faith. Complaining shows a lack of faith and trust. Lets look at 1 Thessalonians 5 again, this time verses 16 through 18. “Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (NKJV) Trusting God in all our circumstances all the time takes a concentrated effort. Giving thanks from a grateful heart is not for the weak or for sissies! It takes a determined effort. Being thankful isn’t an emotion; it is a decision based on trusting God. Thanksgiving releases the power of God, not so we can avoid difficulties or struggles, but so we will be triumphant in them through His grace and resurrection power. Giving thanks is as an essential ingredient to faith as water is to life. Giving thanks isn’t easy, but always, ALWAYS worth the effort.

Lord, I join with heavens throngs and say “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen." (Rev 7:12)

Let’s review what we have been looking at about prayer this week. Prayer is faithful, watchful, and thankful. Prayer is also purposeful. You can pray specifically! Ephesians 6:18 says it very clearly, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Pray for people’s hearts to be strong and that they will persevere. Pray for them to grow in godly wisdom and understanding of His love and grace. Jesus prayed specifically, but He added “Your will be done!” We must pray in unity with God’s purpose. Prayer is God’s invitation for us to partner with Him to see His will being done. Can He do it without us? Absolutely! But He wants us to be included because He created us to have a relationship with Him. As we pray for others, our hearts are linked to them through God’s Spirit and His love. Prayer is powerful!

Do you want to know how to pray for people? Then as you read the Bible, take note of the beautiful prayers included. There is also the cry of God’s heart in Ezekiel 22:30 “I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.” He wants us to “stand in the gap” and intercede for others. Pray for the lost; pray for the rebellious; pray for those in need; pray for your family and friends. Praying for others is reaching out from your heart and touching others with God’s love. James 5:16b tells us “…The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” Paul’s fervent and heartfelt prayer in Ephesians is a beautiful pattern for how to pray for others. So when in doubt as to how to pray, turn to some of the prayers in the Bible and discover the power of praying in accordance with God’s will. Let’s face it, His desire is for all of us to grow in spiritual understanding and established in His love!

And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. NIV
同時に、私たちのためにも、神がみことばのために門を開いてくださって、私たちがキリストの奥義を語れるように、祈ってください。この奥義のために、私は牢に入れられています。4 また、私がこの奥義を、当然語るべき語り方で、はっきり語れるように、祈ってください。
Let’s take another look at these verses. Returning to the truth of prayer having purpose, look at Paul’s motivation. Did he pray to be let out of prison? Did he want prayer for health, wealth, comfort or even safety? If you were in prison because you were a Christian, what do you think you would pray for? Would you have as your one purpose the goal of proclaiming Jesus? Paul was opposed and arrested for preaching the gospel to gentiles. Here is a nutshell look at the history behind this: Before Jesus was born, God had instructed the Jewish people to be separate from the gentiles because they kept getting swept up in gentile paganism. Jesus was to be born into a God-fearing family so purity of faith was essential. Also, the security for their own stability was to remain faithful to the Eternal God. Now, because of Jesus, God opened the doors of heaven wide for all who would believe, Jew or gentile. But the Jewish leaders had made a religion out of their exclusive “Jewishness.” They missed the point of loving God and loving others. They missed the importance God places on mercy. Paul caught the vision in John 3:16-17 that states. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Understanding that truth and wanting to proclaim it to all, Paul’s prayer was simply that the doors would be open so that he could clearly present the truth and hope of the good news about Jesus Christ.

Jesus, it is easy to get wrapped up in my daily concerns and the desire to be in my own comfort zone causing me to loose focus to proclaim your truth to others. Forgive my selfishness and open my eyes to the needs of those around me. Give me boldness to proclaim your truth in love and with mercy.
主イエスよ、あなたの真実を他の人に語るよりも、日常の関心事に捕らわれたり、楽に過ごしたいという思いにかられてしまいます。私の身勝手さを許してください、そして私の周りの人の必要に気が付くように、私の目を開いてください。あなたの愛とあわれみにあふれた、真実を語る大胆さを与えてください。

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. NIV
外部の人に対して賢明にふるまい、機会を十分に生かして用いなさい。
Walking in wisdom is learning how to apply godly principles to everyday life. Therefore it stands to reason that you should read your Bible daily and apply its truth to your life. Unfortunately, you can know the Bible without applying its truth! Satan knows the Bible and uses pieces and parts of it to distract us from the whole truth. Application of God’s truth teaches us what a treasure it is and how liberating His truth is. Learning to live a well-balanced life using godly judgment makes our words about the Lord have value to those who don’t yet know Christ. The most influential person in my life was my Mom. Mom always felt like she didn’t have much to give because she didn’t think she “thought deeply theologically.” But since theology means the study of the nature of God and His truth I believe Mom was the most theologically thinking person I know. Because she lived the truth, her faith was simple and childlike and full of wisdom. She impacted lives with her “down home” wisdom and love. To fully walk in godly wisdom we need that combination of childlike faith and trust in God, seeking to know Him through His word and living out the truths that we learn.
賢明にふるまうことは、いかにして神様の御心に添ったやり方を、日常生活に当てはめるか学ぶことです。そのためには毎日聖書を読み、その真実を自分の生活に適用することです。残念ながら、その真実を適用できなければ、聖書を理解したとは言えません。サタンは聖書を知っているので、その一部を利用して私達の心をその真実から反らせようとします。神様の真実を適用できたら、その宝物のような価値と自由を得るでしょう。神様の御心に添った判断をしながら、バランス良く生きることを学ぶと、キリストをまだ知らない人にとって、主について語る私達の言葉は価値あるものとなります。私が人生で一番影響を受けた人は、私の母でした。それなのに母は、人に与えるものを多く持っていないと、いつも感じていました。なぜなら母は自分の思考が、神学上は深くないと思っていたからです。けれども神学とは、神様の本質と真実を学ぶことを意味するなら、母こそ私の知るうちで最も神学的考え方の出来る人でした。彼女は神様の真実に生きたので、その信仰はシンプルで子供のようでありながら、知恵にあふれていました。彼女は気さくな知恵と愛を持って、他の人の人生に強い衝撃を与えました。神様の御心に添った知恵を十分に身に付けるためには、御言葉を通して主を捜し求め、自ら学んだ真実のうちを歩みながら、子供のような信仰と神様への信頼を組み合わせることが大切です。
Thank you for your truth, Lord! “Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” (Ps 86:11)
主よ、あなたの真実に感謝します！「主よ、あなたの道を私に教えてください。私はあなたの真理のうちを歩みます。私の心を一つにしてください。御名を恐れるように。」（詩篇８６：１１）

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. NIV
こういうわけで、私たちはキリストの使節なのです。ちょうど神が私たちを通して懇願しておられるようです。私たちは、キリストに代わって、あなたがたに願います。神の和解を受け入れなさい。21 神は、罪を知らない方を、私たちの代わりに罪とされました。それは、私たちが、この方にあって、神の義となるためです。
An “ambassador” is an authorized representative. Since we have been made new through Jesus, His amazing love frees us, energizes us, and should rule over our actions. We are the representatives of His grace and love. Why do we sometimes loose the power of His love? We tend to become all wrapped up in our own self, our feelings, and our wants. “I, me, and my” become our focus. When that happens, we loose not only our joy and our peace, but also our credibility as God’s ambassador. Matthew 5:13-16 reminds us, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” We are to be salt and light so that our lives can be the platforms for God’s grace and love to shine from. Christ alive and working in you, no matter the circumstances, will draw people to want to know Him. God is good at all times. He is faithful and his mercy is fresh every morning. Relax in His love and goodness. Let the Lord work in you and through you so that those who don’t know Him will be drawn to Him.

Lord you are good and your mercy endures forever! I give my life to you to be used for your glory and so that others will see you and be drawn to you.
主よ、あなたはいつくしみ深く、そのあわれみは絶えることはありません！他の人があなたを見て引き寄せられるために、あなたの栄光を輝かせるように、私の命をささげます。

Matthew 10:16 マタイ１０：１６
I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. NIV
いいですか。わたしが、あなたがたを遣わすのは、狼の中に羊を送り出すようなものです。ですから、蛇のようにさとく、鳩のようにすなおでありなさい。
A sheep among wolves is harmless and gentle in a cold, hard world. Jesus was like that! God’s perfect Lamb entered a world full of hatred and rejection. The awesome prophecy in Isaiah 56 verse 3 tells about the horror of the world Jesus entered. “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” In return for the rejection, sorrow and pain, Jesus offered love, mercy and hope! To “be wise as serpents and harmless as a dove” was a common expression. It meant to be wise and recognize spiritual dangers, keeping away from them, always guileless (innocent) of wrong doings. When our decisions are based on love for and loyalty to the Lord, our choices show that we know what is good and pleasing to Him. Also it shows that you have an understanding of evil and the desire shun it. What do your choices show about you?
狼の中の羊は、冷たく厳しい世の中で、無害でおとなしい存在です。イエス様はまさにその羊でした！神様の完全なる子羊は、憎しみと拒絶ばかりの世に入って来られました。素晴らしい預言イザヤ５３：３は、イエス様が来られた世の恐ろしさについて述べています。「彼はさげすまれ、人々からのけ者にされ、悲しみの人で病を知っていた。人が顔をそむけるほどさげすまれ、私たちも彼を尊ばなかった。」拒絶と悲しみと苦しみのお返しに、イエス様は、愛とあわれみと希望をささげられました！「ヘビのように賢く、ハトのように無害になる。」という表現はよく知られたものでした。その意味は、賢く霊的な危険を見抜きそこから離れ、さらに悪だくみをしない（罪を犯さない）ということです。私達の判断が主への愛と忠誠に基づいていたら、何が良いことで、主を喜ばすことか、正しく選択できるはずです。また悪を見抜き遠ざけるはずです。あなたの選択から何が読みとれますか？
Lord, what do my choices show about me? Are you seen clearly in me? Create in me a clean heart Lord, so that I will show forth the beauty of what you can do in a life committed to you.
主よ、私の選択は、私について何を示していますか？あなたがはっきりと、私のうちに見てとれるでしょうか？汚れのない心を、私のうちに造ってください。あなたにゆだねた私のうちに、あなたがどんなに素晴らしいことを成し遂げられるか示すことができますように。

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. NIV
あなたがたのことばが、いつも親切で、塩味のきいたものであるようにしなさい。そうすれば、ひとりひとりに対する答え方がわかります。
What we say and how we say it makes an impact. Our words need to glorify Christ. Unfortunately that isn’t the way it always is, is it? James warns us in chapter 1 verse 26 “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.” Jesus said in Luke 6:45 “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” Our words reveal our heart! If there is bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, or pride in our heart, our words will reveal it. You can hide it some of the time but not all the time! We need to ask the Lord to cleanse our hearts so we will become people of clean lips! Godly words are pure. We all need His word to permeate our hearts making them pure! Ask God for wisdom and how to speak the truth in love so your words will be gracious and full of godly wisdom.
私達のことば、言い方は、ひとつの衝撃となります。私達のことばは、キリストをたたえることが求められます。ところが残念なことに、いつもそうではありません、違いますか？ヤコブは１：２６にて警告しています。「自分は宗教に熱心であると思っても、自分の舌にくつわをかけず、自分の心を欺いているなら、そのような人の宗教はむなしいものです。」イエス様はルカ６：４５にて告げています。「良い人は、その心の良い倉から良い物を出し、悪い人は、悪い倉から悪い物を出します。なぜなら人の口は、心に満ちているものを話すからです。」私達のことばは、自分の心を明らかにします！もし恨み、怒り、許せない気持ち、思い上がりを抱いていたら、自分のことばによって暴露されるでしょう。たとえ隠すことが出来たとしても、いつまでも続きません！汚れのない口を持つ人になるためには、主に心を清めてもらうしかありません！神様の御心に添ったことばには、汚れはありません。私達はみな、自分の心に清らかさを浸透させるために、御ことばが必要です！知恵を求め、愛の真実を語るために、神様を求めてください。そうすればあなたのことばは恵みにあふれ、神様の御心に添った知恵で満たされることでしょう。
Thank you that you forgive, cleanse and give wisdom when we seek you, Lord. Cleanse my heart, my lips and give me the wisdom to speak and live in a way that honors you.
主よ、あなたを求める者に、許しと清らかさと知恵をくださり感謝します。あなたをたたえることばを語り歩んでいけますように、私の心と口を清めて、知恵を与えてください。

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. NIV
悪いことばを、いっさい口から出してはいけません。ただ、必要なとき、人の徳を養うのに役立つことばを話し、聞く人に恵みを与えなさい。30 神の聖霊を悲しませてはいけません。あなたがたは、贖いの日のために、聖霊によって証印を押されているのです。
Our words need to be encouraging and edifying. Encouragement inspires and stimulates hope as well as prompts a person to continue on in the grace of God. To edify some one means to build them up with knowledge of the Lord’s ways. How can you encourage and edify people? First, lets examine the opposite. Before anything else, do you see faults in others? Do you feel highly critical of others? Is your first response negative? Our perspective is often totally different than God’s! Maybe instead of asking ourselves these questions, we need to ask the Lord to show us His perspective! Do you want your words to be encouraging? Do you want to be a blessing instead of a problem to others? I believe it grieves the Holy Spirit when we ignore His leading and prompting and continue on in our own pride and negativity. Wouldn’t you rather be a delight to Him than a source of grief?
私達のことばは、人を励まし、啓発するものであるべきです。励ましは神様の恵みにあずかるように人を促すとともに、望みを抱くように霊の力を与えて、心を活気づけます。人を啓発することは、主の御心にかなった知識をその人の心に築くことです。どうしたら人を励まし、啓発することができるでしょうか？最初にそれを妨害するものを調べてみましょう。あなたは、真っ先に人の欠点が目に付きますか？あなたは人を厳しく批判するほうですか？まず何事も否定的に受けとめてしまいますか？私達の物の見方は、たいてい神様の視点とは大きくずれているものです！おそらくこれらの質問を自分に問いかけるよりも、神様の物の見方を学ぶために、主を求めることが重要です！あなたは自分のことばが、人を励ますことを望みますか？人に迷惑をかけるよりも、人に喜ばれたいと思いませんか？主の導きと励ましを無視して、高慢で否定的な態度を固持することは、聖霊を深く悲しませることに違いありません。主を悲しませるよりも、むしろ主を喜ばせたいと思いませんか？
Lord, show me where I am negative and critical so I can confess that sin and be cleansed from it. I want to be a blessing not a problem. But I can’t do it by myself. I want to be like you, speaking words of encouragement and exhortation!
主よ、否定的で批判的な態度があったら知らせてください、あなたに過ちを告白し、その汚れを清められるために。迷惑をかける者ではなく、祝福される者になることを願っています。けれども自分の力ではできません。人に勇気を与え、熱く勧めのことばを語るあなたのようになれますように！

Ephesians 4:31-32 エペソ４：３１－３２
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. NIV
無慈悲、憤り、怒り、叫び、そしりなどを、いっさいの悪意とともに、みな捨て去りなさい。32 お互いに親切にし、心の優しい人となり、神がキリストにおいてあなたがたを赦してくださったように、互いに赦し合いなさい。
After letting God examine our hearts we will have other choices to make. We must choose not to be mean, bad tempered, and angry. We can choose not to be quarrelsome or harsh. We can choose to apply God’s grace and love with His enabling to be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving. Sometimes it may feel like negative emotions are ruling you. But you always have the choice to be ruled by negativity that leads to sin or to surrender those feelings to the Lord. Let Jesus heal your hurts so your life, words and actions are totally seasoned with His character of love, mercy and grace. Remember, not only do we walk by faith not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7) we also walk by faith and not by emotions! We need to let Jesus fully be the Lord of our lives and choose to follow His ways.
神様に自分の心を調べてもらったら、違った選択ができるはずです。意地悪くなったり、機嫌をそこねたり、怒りっぽくなってはいけません。すぐ言い争ったり、荒々しくなるべきではありません。神様から与えられる親切、優しさ、許しの能力を用いて、神様の恵みと愛を生かすことができるはずです。否定的な感情に支配されている、そんな気がする時もあるかも知れません。しかし否定的な見解に支配されて罪に導かれるか、主にその感情を明け渡すか、あなたはいつも選ぶことができます。あなたの人生、ことば、行いを、イエス様の愛とあわれみのご性格によって調味されることによって、心の傷をいやしてください。私たちは、見るところによってではなく、信仰によって歩んでいる（２コリント５：７）ことを思い出してください。私たちはまた、感情ではなく、信仰によって歩んでいるのです！イエス様を自分の人生の主として受け入れることと、主の道に従う決意が必要です。
Thank you for your grace that enables me to do what you have asked of me. I know Lord that I make the choice to accept or reject your grace. I want to choose to accept all that you have for me. Open my eyes to see what you truly value and help me live by that.
あなたの恵みと、あなたの求めに応じる能力をくださったことに感謝します。主よ、あなたはその恵みを受け取るか、拒絶するか、選択の自由までくださいました。あなたが、私に与えるものすべてを、受け取ることが私の選択です。あなたの真の価値が見えるように、私の目を開いてください、さらにあなたに従って生きる力をください。

Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. 8 I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. 9 He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here. NIV
私の様子については、主にあって愛する兄弟、忠実な奉仕者、同労のしもべであるテキコが、あなたがたに一部始終を知らせるでしょう。8 私がテキコをあなたがたのもとに送るのは、あなたがたが私たちの様子を知り、彼によって心に励ましを受けるためにほかなりません。9 また彼は、あなたがたの仲間のひとりで、忠実な愛する兄弟オネシモといっしょに行きます。このふたりが、こちらの様子をみな知らせてくれるでしょう。
Do you ever feel like skipping over the lists of names when reading the Bible? If you think about it, each of those people was just like you and me. They were living, breathing people with joys, sorrows, temptations, failures, and victories just like we have. Tychicus was a faithful, trusted friend. Paul entrusted him with his letters to the Ephesians and Colossians to accurately report what was going on with Paul and to encourage others. In a sense, without Tychicus we wouldn’t have these parts of the Bible. If he had not valued those books and traveled over treacherous territory to deliver them, we wouldn’t be able to read them today. There is no such thing as an insignificant responsibility in the body of believers. Each person’s service is an act of worship to honor God and bless others. Onesimus was a runaway slave who had become a Christian through Paul’s ministry. Notice that Paul called Onesimus “a faithful and beloved brother.” But before becoming a believer, Onesimus was also a thief and considered worthless as a human being. But Jesus made the difference! Onesimus was as a “beloved son” to Paul (Philemon 10). Paul sent him back to Philemon, asking that Onesimus would be received with the same kind of love that Paul would have received. Onesimus inspires us to see the difference Christ can make in a person’s life. The story of Onesimus and Philemon illustrates the power of brotherly love. God is not a respecter of persons (Acts 10:34) because of wealth, social standing or family, God looks at the heart and values each person for who they are, not what they are.
聖書の中に人名がたくさん出てくると、つい飛ばして読もうと思ったことはありませんか？考えてみればそれらの人々もまた、あなたや私と同じような存在でした。彼らもまた私達のように、喜び、悲しみ、誘惑、失敗、勝利とともに生きていました。テキコは忠実で信頼できる友でした。パウロはエペソとコロサイへの手紙を信頼して彼に預け、自分の様子を正確に伝え、彼らの心を励ますように頼みました。ある意味ではテキコがいなかったら、聖書の一部がなかったと言えます。もし彼がそれらの手紙を重く見ず、危険な場所を旅していたら、今日私達はこれを読むことができなかったかも知れません。信じる者にとって、取るに足らない任務などありません。ひとりひとりの奉仕が、神様をたたえ、人に祝福を与える礼拝を実践することです。オネシモはパウロの働きによって、奴隷の身から逃げてクリスチャンとなりました。パウロがオネシモを「忠実な愛する兄弟」と呼んだことに目をとめてください。実はオネシモは信者になる以前、泥棒で価値のない人間とみなされていました。けれどもイエス様は、全く違った者に変えてくださいました！オネシモはパウロにとって「愛する我が子」でした。（ピレモン１０）パウロは自分が受け取った愛を、オネシモも受け取ることを願って、彼をピレモンのもとに送りました。オネシモはクリスチャンになることによって、自分の人生を変えることができることを教えています。オネシモとピレモンは、兄弟愛の力を実証しています。神様は富、社会的地位、家族によって人を分け隔てしません。（使徒１０：３４）神様は人の心を見られ、その人の職業、階級、国籍などではなく、その人となりによって評価されます。
Thank you Lord that you are not a respecter of persons! Thank you for just loving me for who I am. I desire to be faithful and committed to serving you and loving others. I need your grace and wisdom to lead me every hour of every day!

My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas. (You have received instructions about him; if he comes to you, welcome him.) 11 Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. NIV
私といっしょに囚人となっているアリスタルコが、あなたがたによろしくと言っています。バルナバのいとこであるマルコも同じです。・・この人については、もし彼があなたがたのところに行ったなら、歓迎するようにという指示をあなたがたは受けています。・・11 ユストと呼ばれるイエスもよろしくと言っています。割礼を受けた人では、この人たちだけが、神の国のために働く私の同労者です。また、彼らは私を激励する者となってくれました。
Aristarchus was a faithful friend who stayed with Paul, no matter what! He was with Paul during the riot in Ephesus (Acts19:28-41), shipwrecked together (Acts 27), and he was voluntarily imprisoned with Paul so he could be a help to his friend. Aristarchus’ life defined what a loyal and faithful friend is. John Mark was a young man who did not make a positive first impression! On Paul’s first missionary trip John Mark quit part way through. Paul wouldn’t put up with quitters and refused to take John Mark with him again. But at some point Paul forgave John Mark and there was a remarkable healing in their relationship. John Mark’s failure should encourage us to never give up. God’s grace will strengthen us to overcome our failures and His love will enable us to forgive. Later Paul writes of John Mark in 2 Timothy 4:11 “Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry.” (NKJV) John Mark’s failure was not permanent! John Mark’s life has impacted all who have read the gospel of Mark. He was the first to develop the style of writing called “gospel” (the word means “the joyous good news”). Jesus Justice (Jesus was a common name at the time. The same Hebrew name was Joshua) was not famous. He was one of the quiet people who worked alongside Paul. Jesus Justice didn’t need accolades. He just gently and lovingly cared for others. God sees the heart. There is no hierarchy because of fame. What counts is your heart of love for the Lord, love for others, and living a life that honors God.
アリスタルコは何があろうとそばを離れない、パウロの忠実な友でした！彼はエペソで騒動が起こった時にも、パウロのそばにいました。（使徒１９：２８－４１）船が難破した時も一緒にいて（使徒２７）パウロを助けるために自発的に牢に入りました。アリスタルコの生涯は、忠実で真実の友であることを明確に示すものでした。ヨハネマルコは、ポジティブな第一印象を与える若者ではありませんでした！パウロの最初の宣教の旅で、ヨハネマルコは途中で立ち去ってしまいました。すぐあきらめてしまうような人物に対して、最初パウロは我慢できずに、ヨハネマルコが再び参加することを拒みました。けれども後に何とかパウロはヨハネマルコを許し、二人の間には目を見張る回復が見られました。ヨハネマルコの失敗は、決してあきらめない勇気を与えてくれます。神様の恵みは、私達に失敗を克服する力を与えてくださいます。さらに、神様の愛は、人を許すことも可能にしてくださいます。後にパウロはヨハネマルコについて、２テモテ４：１１に書いています。「マルコを伴って、いっしょに来てください。彼は私の務めのために役に立つからです。」ヨハネマルコの失敗は永続するものではありませんでした！ヨハネマルコの生涯は、マルコの福音書を読んだすべての人に衝撃を与えるものです。彼は福音書（喜ばしい良い知らせの意味）と呼ばれるものを書いた、最初の人物でした。イエス・ユスト（イエスは当時よくある名前でした。へブル語ではヨシュアでした。）は、名高い人ではありませんでした。彼はパウロと一緒に働いた人の中でも、目立たないほうでした。イエス・ユストは称賛など欲しがりませんでした。彼はひたすら優しく、いつくしみ深く、他の人を思いやりました。神様は人の心を見ておられます。名声による階級など存在しません。主を愛し、他の人を愛する心と、神様をあがめる人生こそ大切です。
Thank you for these men in your Word who show us that there is no fatal failure! Lord, it is good to read examples of loyalty and perseverance. I want to love like you do, Lord. Give me a heart like yours!
御ことばによって、致命的な失敗などないことを示してくれた、これらの人物に感謝しています！主よ、忠実さと忍耐の良い手本を読むことは、ありがたいことです。主よ、あなたのように愛することができますように。あなたのような心を与えてください！

Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. 13 I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. NIV
あなたがたの仲間のひとり、キリスト・イエスのしもべエパフラスが、あなたがたによろしくと言っています。彼はいつも、あなたがたが完全な人となり、また神のすべてのみこころを十分に確信して立つことができるよう、あなたがたのために祈りに励んでいます。13 私はあかしします。彼はあなたがたのために、またラオデキヤとヒエラポリスにいる人々のために、非常に苦労しています。
We read about Epaphras in Colossians 1:7. We know that he established the church in Colossae and in Laodicea and Hierapolis. One of the keys to Epaphras’ successful ministry was his prayer life. Epaphras prayed fervently at all times. He prayed for people personally. He knew them. He put his heart into his prayers. Prayer was serious business to Epaphras! His desire was that the people would “stand perfect and complete in the will of God” (NKJV). Being a prayer warrior is to be committed to praying that others would be firmly planted in the center of God’s will and become mature believers, committed to honoring Him. We are misguided if we think prayer is weak or only for health and a comfortable life. Prayer is powerful. And the real focus of prayer is for spiritual strengthening so that who you are praying for will grow closer to the Lord and that His light would shine through them. God delights in answering prayers for spiritual integrity and maturity!

Lord, teach me how to pray wisely and fervently, seeking your will for others. I don’t want to be confused by my human focus of what to pray for, but I want your will to be done!
主よ、他の人のために、あなたの御心を求めて賢く、熱く祈ることを教えてください。何を祈ったらいいのか、人間的なものの見方によって混乱することがありませんように。ひたすら御心がかなうことを望みます！

Colossians 4:14-18 コロサイ４：１４－１８
Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings. 15 Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. 16 After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea. 17 Tell Archippus: "See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord." 18 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you. NIV
愛する医者ルカ、それにデマスが、あなたがたによろしくと言っています。15 どうか、ラオデキヤの兄弟たちに、またヌンパとその家にある教会に、よろしく言ってください。16 この手紙があなたがたのところで読まれたなら、ラオデキヤ人の教会でも読まれるようにしてください。あなたがたのほうも、ラオデキヤから回ってくる手紙を読んでください。17 アルキポに、「主にあって受けた務めを、注意してよく果たすように。」と言ってください。18 パウロが自筆であいさつを送ります。私が牢につながれていることを覚えていてください。どうか、恵みがあなたがたとともにありますように。
Luke was not only a doctor but also a writer and a faithful friend. Luke is the only Gentile writer in the Bible. He wrote the gospel of Luke as well as the history of the early church in the book of Acts. Luke’s commitment gives us an excellent example of how a professional man can use his skills and gifts to serve the Lord, impacting people with the truth of who God is. Demas was an opposite example. He started out well and worked alongside Paul. But later he deserted him. 2 Timothy 4:10 “…Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me…” It is not enough to start well. We need to persevere and grow in grace so we can also end well! My Dad had some rough areas and failures in his life. But one thing everyone said about him was “he ended well.” He is an example to me to never give up. It is never too late to do well in honoring the Lord. John Mark had failed but then repented and went on to end well. Demas started well but chose to follow the world’s ways so ended badly. Temptation is there for all of us. We need to be on guard not to let the desires of the flesh and world to dominate our decisions!
ルカは医者であったばかりではなく、執筆者でありまた忠実な友でした。聖書の中では、ルカはただひとりの異邦人の執筆者でした。彼はルカの福音書の他、初期の教会の歴史をつづった使徒の働きも書き上げました。ルカの献身的な奉仕は、専門技能と賜物を生かして主に仕えるすぐれた手本となり、神様がどういう方であるか、その真実を伝えることによって、人々に衝撃を与えました。デマスはそれと正反対の例です。彼の始まりは正しく、パウロとともに働きました。しかし後に彼はパウロを見捨てました。「デマスは今の世を愛し、私を捨てて．．．」（２テモテ４：１０）スタートが良いだけでは十分ではありません。私達には忍耐と、終わりも良くなるように、恵みを受けて成長することが欠かせません。私の父には荒っぽい面があり、失敗のあった人生でした。けれども「彼の終わりは良かった。」とみんなが言いました。私にとって彼は、決してあきらめないための良い手本です。主をあがめることに、遅すぎることは絶対ありません。ヨハネマルコも失敗しましたが、悔い改め良い終わりにたどり着きました。デマスは良いスタートをきりましたが、この世のやり方に従い、終わりは間違っていました。誰でも誘惑されるものです。油断しないで、肉と世俗の欲望に、自分の判断を支配されないことが大切です！
Paul closes his letter to the church at Colossae with personal greetings and encouragement and a reminder to pray for him. Hebrews 13:3 tells us to “Remember the prisoners as if chained with them — those who are mistreated — since you yourselves are in the body also.” (NKJV) There are people around the world who are persecuted because of their faith in Jesus. We must remember to pray for them that they will be encouraged, stay strong, and impact their world with the truth of Jesus Christ!
パウロはコロサイの教会に宛てたこの手紙を、個人的な挨拶、励まし、自分への祈りで締めくくっています。へブル１３：３は告げています。「牢につながれている人々を、自分も牢にいる気持ちで思いやり、また、自分も肉体を持っているのですから、苦しめられている人々を思いやりなさい。」この世には、イエス様への信仰のために迫害されている人々がいます。その人達が励まされ、しっかりと自分を保ち、イエスキリストの真実によって周囲の人に衝撃を与えることができますように、祈ることを忘れないでください！
Thank you Lord for the book of Colossians that shows us that you are above and before all others, our all in all. Work this truth deep into our hearts so that we will grow in spiritual maturity and understanding.
主よ、ありがとう。コロサイ人への手紙から、あなたがすべてにおいて、すべての人の上に、そしてすべての人の前にいてくださることを学びました。私達が霊的に成熟し理解を深めるために、この真実が私達の心の奥深くまで届き、御手の働きがありますように。
